Job Summary:
This position is responsible for maintaining heating/air conditioning, ventilation, and refrigeration systems, identifying repair/replacement needs, installing, repairing, and upgrading HVAC systems and equipment, and assisting other skilled trades as required.
Essential Functions:

Reporting Relationship: Reports to Supervisor of Maintenance and Operations.
Working Conditions: Work is performed in various District buildings; physical demands include carrying, pushing, climbing, frequent stooping, kneeling, crouching or crawling and significant finger dexterity; must be able to lift a minimum of 40 pounds.
Education and Experience
High School Diploma or equivalent, three years of experience in the repair and maintenance heavy and light equipment, including one year of journey-level experience as HVAC Technician required.
Allowable Substitution
Alternative combinations of education and experience will be evaluated by the Human Resources department for comparability.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Skill in operating equipment used in heating/air conditioning and refrigeration; skill in preparing and maintaining accurate records, and adhering to safety practices. Knowledge of boiler and heating systems; knowledge of methods used in maintenance of heating/air conditioning and refrigeration systems and related equipment; knowledge of safety practices and procedures. Ability to interpret building plans, data, and schematics; ability to read, write and communicate effectively; ability to adapt to changing work priorities, ability to operate a computer and learn specific software programs; ability to maintain effective working relationships with staff and the public; ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
Licenses/Special Requirements:
Valid Washington State driver’s license.
Salary: Salary is based upon the current 2026-27 Maintenance Salary Schedule ; HVAC Technician level. FLSA Non-Exempt.
Work Year: 12 month position, 260 days per year, 8.0 hours per day.
Benefits: Washington state health insurance coverage (SEBB) and a Washington state retirement package, for eligible positions. Generally, you are eligible for SEBB benefits if you are anticipated to work at least 630 hours per school year (September 1 through August 31).
