Job summary

Glenview School District 34 is seeking a Maintenance Specialist HVAC to ensure efficient operation and maintenance of heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems across district facilities. You will support a safe and comfortable environment for students and staff.

This 12-month district-wide role reports to the Maintenance Supervisor/Director of Operations and requires at least 2 years of HVAC experience, with EPA 608 or NATE certifications highly desirable.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent; vocational/technical HVAC training preferred.
  • Minimum of 2 years experience as HVAC Technician, preferably in a school district.
  • EPA 608 and NATE certifications are highly desirable.
  • Ability to diagnose and repair HVAC equipment including furnaces, boilers, air handlers and rooftop units.

Responsibilities

  • Perform routine inspections, maintenance and repairs of HVAC systems in accordance with standards.
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot malfunctions to identify root causes and implement solutions.
  • Create regular preventive maintenance tasks to prolong equipment life.
  • Coordinate repairs, replacements and upgrades with the maintenance team.
  • Monitor energy efficiency and indoor air quality, maintaining comfort standards.
  • Respond to service requests and emergencies promptly to minimize disruption.
  • Maintain records of maintenance activities, inventory and service history.
  • Read schematics, blueprints and technical manuals as needed.
  • Other tasks as assigned by the Maintenance Supervisor.

A Maintenance Specialist HVAC is needed for the 2026-27 fiscal year.

POSITION SUMMARY

The HVAC Maintenance will be responsible for ensuring the efficient operation and maintenance of heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) systems across our school district's facilities. The role plays a critical part in maintaining a comfortable and safe environment for students, teachers and staff.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS

This position reports to Maintenance Supervisor/Director of Operations

LOCATION

This position is a district-wide position and travels to locations where needed

WORK YEAR

12-month position (the district is on a July-June fiscal year)

SALARY

starting at $27.83/hour

START DATE

As soon as possible

QUALIFICATIONS
  • High school diploma or equivalent; completion of a vocational or technical training program in HVAC systems preferred.
  • Minimum of 2 years experience working as an HVAC Technician, preferably in a school district setting.
  • Possession of relevant HVAC certifications (e.g. EPA 608, NATE) is highly desirable.
  • Proficiency in diagnosing and repairing a wide range of HVAC equipment, including furnaces, boilers, air handlers, chillers and rooftop units.
  • Strong understanding of HVAC principles, refrigeration cycles, electrical circuits, and mechanical systems including BAS systems.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail with the ability to prioritize tasks effectively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills for interacting with teachers, staff, administrators and external contractors.
  • Valid driver's license with clean driving record.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES
Operations
  • Perform routine inspections, maintenance and repairs of HVAC systems in accordance with manufacturer's specifications and industry standards.
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot HVAC equipment malfunctions to identify root causes and implement effective solutions promptly.
  • Create and conduct regular preventive maintenance tasks to prolong the lifespan of HVAC equipment and minimize unexpected breakdowns.
  • Coordinate with other maintenance team members to coordinate repairs, replacements and upgrades of HVAC components as needed
  • Monitor and adjust HVAC system settings to optimize energy efficiency and indoor air quality while adhering to established comfort standards
  • Respond promptly to service requests and emergency calls related to HVAC issues, and ensure timely resolution to minimize disruptions of daily operations.
  • Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, equipment inventory and service history for reference and reporting purposes.
  • Stay informed about advancements in HVAC technology, regulations and best practices through ongoing training and professional development initiatives.
  • Ability to read schematics, blueprints and technical data/manuals.
  • Perform other tasks as assigned by the Maintenance Supervisor.

  • Knowledge of OSHA safety regulations.

  • Seasonal jobs, such as cleaning roof drains, gutters, tree maintenance
  • Part of the snow removal team to ensure a safe and efficient clearing of snow and ice from school premises to maintain accessibility and safety for students, staff, and visitors.
  • Weekend and after hours may be required.
