Job Description

Title: Skilled Craftsman - Heating, Ventilating, Air Conditioning (HVAC)

Hours / Work Times: 8 Hours Per Day (7:00 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. includes 30 minute unpaid lunch), 260 Days Per Year

Position Duration: Permanent

Classification Group: Maintenance Crafts II

Salary range: $40.77 to $48.29 per hour, negotiable. New employees start at minimum hourly rate; experience credit may be applied.

Essential Functions
  • Communicate effectively with staff and the general public.
  • Troubleshoot, repair, and maintain HVAC systems throughout the District.
  • Maintain hot water boilers, chillers, cooling towers and their components.
  • Perform preventive maintenance on HVAC systems.
  • Change electric drive motors, belts, and sheaves.
  • Clean coils as required.
  • Inspect for breaks in duct systems.
  • Order supplies as necessary.
  • Maintain inventory records.
  • Provide estimates on work projects.
  • Perform first aid/CPR when necessary.
  • Read blueprints as needed.
  • Travel between locations to accomplish tasks.
  • Complete all required district training timely.
  • Comply with all district and government safety regulations.
Other Responsibilities
  • May carry a pager and be called back to work after regular hours to perform special service as needed.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
Physical Demands

Hearing, Speaking, Vision, Walking, Standing, Driving, Bending/Stooping, Lifting/Carrying up to 75 lbs. Acceptable attendance. Climbing, Pushing/Pulling. May work outdoors in inclement weather. Exposure to noise. Use of hand and/or arms for repetitive motion.

Mental Demands

Reading documents, math, verbal communication, problem solving, customer contact. Percentages indicate frequency; reasonable accommodations considered.

Tools and Equipment

Must use flow hood and other necessary tools for essential functions.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Current Journeyman HVAC card or four full-time years of applicable experience; trade vocational training may be substituted on a year-for-year basis up to two years.
  • Ability to obtain (EL06A) HVAC/Refrigeration Limited Energy License preferred.
  • Ability to obtain EPA HVAC Technician Certification (Universal) preferred.
  • Effective communication skills with staff and public.
  • Willingness to work after regular hours as needed.
  • Organizational skills and follow-through.
  • Ability to operate tools and equipment for essential functions.
  • Able to understand oral and written communications and follow directions.
  • Good math aptitude.
  • First aid/CPR card within 45 days of employment.
  • Ability to read and understand blueprints.
  • Able to travel between locations.
  • Valid driver's license and current driving abstract.
  • Ability to obtain a Commercial Driver's License (CDL - A or B).
  • Working knowledge of building automation systems.
  • Ability to establish positive teamwork relationships.
