Position: HVAC Tech (US - Memphis)
Smith+ Neb invites you to join our Facility Maintenance Team as an Industrial HVAC Technician Tech 3.
Responsibilities
- The Industrial HVAC Technician Tech 3 reports to the Facility Maintenance Team.
- Diagnose, repair, and maintain a wide range of industrial HVAC and refrigeration equipment with high technical expertise, independence, and leadership.
- Serve as an independent HVAC site resource, capable of handling complex service calls while working alongside in‑house and external contractors supporting Facility Operations.
- Perform preventive maintenance, diagnostics, and repairs on advanced HVAC systems, including:
- Chillers/Boilers
- DX Equipment (Package Units)
- Building Management Systems (BMS) and Controls
- Make‑Up Air (MAU) Units
- Refrigeration Systems
- Compressed Air Systems
- Participate in on‑call rotation as required.
- Ensure compliance with company safety policies, procedures, and quality standards.
- Maintain accurate service documentation and complete required reports in a timely manner.
- Lead troubleshooting efforts and repair HVAC systems.
- Ensure proper care in the use and maintenance of equipment and supplies; promote continuous improvement of workplace safety and environmental practices.
- Provide sketches and dimensions for subcontractor plans.
- Interpret and apply mechanical and structural blueprints to plan plumbing repairs and modifications.
- Coordinate with management to complete and track corrective and preventive maintenance tasks and renovation/construction tasks assigned to plumbers or contractors.
- Using the CMMS work order system, prioritize and complete work orders for all campuses; verify completion and close out properly.
- Work with outside vendors, engineers and consultants on projects affecting plumbing systems on buildings and incorporate their designs for Smith+ Neb.
- Perform miscellaneous job‑related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Graduate of a trade or vocational school in a related field.
- Valid EPA Certification (Universal preferred).
- Journeyman or Master HVAC License where applicable.
- Minimum 5+ years as a commercial HVAC Service Technician with mastery of advanced systems.
- Experience installing, repairing, and maintaining industrial and commercial HVAC equipment, refrigeration, air conditioning, electric motors, heating units, heat pumps, compressors, furnaces, boilers, fans, economizers, humidifiers, control systems, and packaged units.
- Ability to use hand and power tools applicable to the trade.
- Ability to lead others in troubleshooting and emergency repairs.
- Ability to develop and implement planned maintenance programs.
- Ability to read, understand, and follow safety procedures.
- Willingness to respond 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, including weekends, nights, and holidays.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Customer service oriented (internal customer base for manufacturing).
- Diplomatic and collaborative.
- Extended standing and walking; lift up to 50–75 lbs routinely, up to 150 lbs with assistance.
- Bending, stooping, kneeling, repetitive hand motions, and reaching to high or difficult‑to‑reach areas.
