Job summary

Johnson Controls is seeking an apprentice to learn HVAC mechanical equipment and controls on client sites, attending the Apprentice School in Richmond two nights a week. You’ll be mentored to diagnose issues and deliver service improvements, with factory certification through our Service Technical Academy.

The role emphasizes safety, teamwork, and excellent customer service while providing opportunities for advancement; a valid driver’s license and union membership are required.

Qualifications

• Must be a member or willing to join the local union.
• Tech savvy, using AI tools and handheld devices.
• Knowledge of mechanical HVAC systems, facilities management systems, and controls installation/servicing.
• Effective interpersonal skills to represent Johnson Controls professionally.
• Leadership to support mechanics on non-complex HVAC equipment.
• Self-starter with ability to work independently.
• Valid driver’s license.
• 1-2 years of trade school or college in a technical emphasis preferred.

Responsibilities

• Attend Apprentice School two nights a week in Richmond.
• Apprentices will train and work on HVAC mechanical equipment and controls on client sites.
• Participate in Service Technical Academy training for skill development and advancement.
• Develop troubleshooting and customer-service skills through coaching and mentorship.
• Keep Johnson Controls, contractors, and customers advised of job progress and issues.
• Meet attendance requirements for required Union training during first year.
• Provide recommendations and solutions to improve facility efficiency.
• Provide quotes to support recommendations and solutions.
