Job summary

Johnson Controls in Charlottesville, VA is offering an Apprentice program to learn HVAC and building controls on client sites. You will attend the Apprentice School two nights weekly in Richmond and complete hands-on training through the Service Technical Academy, building skills for recognition, rewards and advancement.

You will work with mentors, gain safety-focused experience and customer-service know-how, and pursue certification. A valid driver’s license is required for site visits.

Qualifications

• Must be a member or willing to join the local union.
• Tech Savvy, using AI tools and handheld devices
• Mechanical HVAC systems, facilities management systems, site prep and servicing techniques
• Effective interpersonal skills to represent Johnson Controls ethically and professionally
• Leadership to support activities of mechanics on non-complex HVAC equipment
• Self-starter with ability to work independently
• Prioritize safety in all forms
• Requires a valid driver’s license.

Responsibilities

• Attend Apprentice School 2 nights a week in Richmond (mandatory).
• Apprentices will be trained and perform on HVAC mechanical equipment and controls on client sites.
• Participate in Service Technical Academy training to build skills and opportunities for advancement.
• Develop skills to troubleshoot and address technical issues and customer needs.
• Keep Johnson Controls, contractors, and customers advised of progress and issues.
• Meet attendance requirements for required Union training in year one.
• Provide recommendations to improve facility efficiency and upsell opportunities.
• Provide quotes to support recommendations and solutions.
