HVAC Service Technician
Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced and customer-focused HVAC Service Technician to join our service team. The HVAC Service Technician will be responsible for diagnosing, repairing, installing, and maintaining residential heating and cooling systems at customer job sites.
The ideal candidate is proactive, organized, technically skilled, and committed to providing professional and reliable service. This role requires strong communication skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently while maintaining positive relationships with customers and team members.
Key Responsibilities
HVAC Service & Repair
- Diagnose residential HVAC systems and identify mechanical, electrical, and operational issues.
- Remove, replace, and install HVAC components, parts, and equipment.
- Perform repairs on residential heating and cooling systems, including air conditioning units, heat pumps, gas furnaces, and related equipment.
- Perform routine preventive maintenance and system inspections.
- Prepare accurate repair estimates and clearly explain recommended repairs to customers.
- Ensure all work is completed safely, accurately, and in accordance with applicable HVAC codes and standards.
- Use required tools and equipment safely and properly.
Customer Service
- Communicate professionally with customers regarding HVAC system conditions, recommended repairs, replacement options, and maintenance needs.
- Provide clear explanations of technical issues and available solutions.
- Maintain a professional and courteous demeanor while working in customer residences.
- Build positive customer relationships through reliable service, communication, and follow-through.
- Address customer questions and concerns promptly and professionally.
Documentation & Administrative Support
- Complete service documentation, work orders, repair records, and other administrative requirements accurately and on time.
- Maintain accurate records using company-provided laptops, tablets, phones, or other technology.
- Communicate job status, parts requirements, and service updates with the appropriate team members.
- Follow established service procedures and quality standards.
- Assist with other service-related duties as assigned.
Teamwork & Professionalism
- Work collaboratively with service managers, technicians, office staff, and other team members.
- Contribute to a positive team environment built on teamwork, trust, and mutual respect.
- Maintain a positive and professional attitude in the field and workplace.
- Take initiative and work independently while knowing when to seek additional support.
Qualifications
- High school diploma, GED, trade school, or technical training required; college degree is a plus.
- 3 years of experience performing residential HVAC service and maintenance independently.
- Experience working with heat pumps, gas furnaces, air conditioning systems, and related residential HVAC equipment.
- EPA certification required.
- Valid driver’s license required.
- Strong knowledge of applicable local HVAC codes and safety requirements.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing.
- Strong customer service and interpersonal skills.
- Comfortable using computers, laptops, tablets, email, and internet-based systems.
- Ability to safely operate and maintain HVAC tools and equipment.
- Bilingual skills are a plus.
