Job summary
NC Quality Air is hiring an experienced HVAC Service Technician to troubleshoot, diagnose and repair residential and light commercial HVAC systems in Wilmington and nearby communities.
We seek a true diagnostician who identifies root causes, explains options clearly to homeowners and works with customers to determine the best long-term solutions. This full-time role offers steady work and opportunities for growth with paid training and benefits.
Qualifications
- 5+ years of HVAC service and repair experience.
- EPA Section 608 certification required.
- Strong troubleshooting skills on residential and light commercial equipment.
- Experience with variable-speed and communicating systems.
- Solid knowledge of refrigeration, electrical, airflow, static pressure, combustion and sequence of operation.
- Comfortable with digital gauges, multimeters, temperature and static pressure tools.
- Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record.
- Able to work safely in attics, crawlspaces, mechanical rooms, rooftops and outdoors.
- Clear communication, organization and accurate documentation.
- Professional appearance and a customer-first attitude.
- Willing to take part in an on-call rotation.
Responsibilities
- Diagnose and repair heat pumps, AC units, gas furnaces and rooftops.
- Troubleshoot variable-speed and fully communicating systems.
- Read wiring diagrams, fault codes, manufacturer data and service literature.
- Test electrical components, motors, controls, sensors, compressors and refrigerant circuits.
- Perform preventive maintenance and full system tune-ups.
- Explain findings, repair options and pricing to homeowners clearly.
- Recommend IAQ, humidity control and airflow improvements when appropriate.
- Bring in a comfort advisor when replacement may be the better long-term option.
- Document diagnoses, repairs, equipment details and jobsite photos.
- Keep a clean, organized service vehicle and follow safety standards.

We want a real diagnostician, not a parts changer. You’ll find the root cause, explain it clearly, and give homeowners honest options.
- Diagnose and repair heat pumps, AC units, gas furnaces, air handlers, package units, mini-splits and rooftop units
- Troubleshoot variable-speed, inverter-driven and fully communicating systems
- Read wiring diagrams, fault codes, manufacturer data and service literature
- Test electrical components, motors, controls, sensors, compressors, refrigerant circuits, airflow and static pressure
- Perform preventive maintenance and full system tune-ups
- Explain findings, repair options and pricing clearly to homeowners
- Recommend IAQ, humidity control, surge protection and airflow improvements when they help the customer
