Job Title: Preventative Maintenance Mechanic

Department: Building Services

Education Level and Certification: Associate’s Degree in HVAC (two-year program). Third Class Stationary Engineer’s License (must be obtained within 12 months of assignment). EPA Universal Technician Certification for Refrigerant Handling (must be obtained within six months of hire). Minimum of five (5) years’ experience maintaining hot water heating systems, chilled water and refrigerant-based air conditioning, and HVAC equipment.

Reports To: Director of Operations

Performance Responsibilities and Job Tasks:
  • Perform comprehensive preventative maintenance on HVAC equipment, including hot water heating, chilled water, and refrigerant systems.
  • Troubleshoot and repair mechanical and electrical systems, including plumbing, pneumatic, and electronic controls, with minimal supervision.
  • Conduct electrical system maintenance, including lighting and branch service; perform related installations and repairs.
  • Utilize welding skills (gas and electric) for repairs and fabrication.
  • Read and interpret blueprints and schematics to plan and execute maintenance tasks effectively.
  • Service, install, repair, and troubleshoot plumbing systems and fixtures.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain a comprehensive mechanical maintenance program.
  • Respond promptly to urgent maintenance needs to ensure safe and efficient building operations.
  • Program and interact with the Building Automation System (BAS) to manage lighting, fire safety, and occupant comfort.
  • Coordinate required inspections, including boiler, backflow prevention, and fire safety.
  • Maintain a safe work environment by adhering to district safety standards, policies, and protocols.
  • Serve as a role model to all students.
  • Serve as a positive member of the community in a way that does not negatively affect the District’s reputation or image in the community.
  • Refrain from engaging in conduct that interferes with the operations of the District, including the education of students.
  • Develop and maintain a positive and professional working relationship with other staff and administration.
  • Adhere to all District policies, rules, regulations, and supervisory directives.
  • Maintain confidentiality of information concerning staff, students, and parents in accordance with law and District rules.
  • Adhere to the code of ethics of the District and the Nebraska Department of Education (NDE Rule 27).

At-Will Position.

This position is an “at-will” position and may be terminated, with or without cause, at any time in the sole discretion of the Superintendent or Superintendent’s designee.

Essential Functions: The essential functions of theHVAC Preventative Maintenance Mechanic position include: (1) regular, dependable in-person attendance on the job; (2) the ability to perform the identified tasks and performance responsibilities which require effective teaching and communication skills; and (3) the ability to perform the following identified physical requirements
