Job summary

Columbia University Facilities & Operations is seeking a Service Mechanic for the Manhattanville campus. The role involves responding to calls on plant, HVAC, refrigeration, and mechanical issues; performing preventive maintenance; and operating building systems with a focus on safety and reliability.

The position requires a high school diploma or GED and relevant certifications; prior experience in facilities maintenance is preferred.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED is required.
• Certificate of Fitness credentials are required/preferred where applicable.
• Strong knowledge of safety policies and procedures and ability to obtain/fill required certifications.

Responsibilities

• Respond to calls related to Plant, HVAC, refrigeration, and mechanical issues.
• Maintain, repair and operate heating, ventilation, and cooling systems and related equipment.
• Read diagrams and electrical schematics to troubleshoot and repair equipment.
• Perform preventive maintenance on HVAC, refrigeration, steam, and mechanical systems.
• Operate and maintain BMS and related control systems.
• Provide on‑the‑job training to junior personnel.
• Attend departmental trainings and complete required on‑the‑job trainings.
