Job summary

University of Arizona is seeking an HVAC Mechanic to install, maintain, and repair heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems across campus facilities. The role requires diagnosing mechanical and electrical issues, performing routine maintenance, and ensuring safe, efficient operation.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of relevant experience or an equivalent combination of education and training.
  • Ability to drive according to the University Fleet Safety Policy.

Responsibilities

  • Repair and preventive maintenance of HVAC and mechanical systems, including electrical troubleshooting.
  • Maintain and repair critical equipment such as decorative fountains and stadium HVAC components.
  • Ensure building systems operate efficiently and meet design intent and guidelines.
  • Troubleshoot and overhaul equipment like air handlers, pumps, exhaust fans, and fans.
  • Install and repair air handlers, belts, bearings, and other ventilation components.

Position Highlights

The HVAC Mechanic is responsible for installing, maintaining, and repairing heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems in residential, commercial, and industrial settings. This role involves diagnosing mechanical and electrical issues, performing routine maintenance, and ensuring systems operate efficiently and safely. The HVAC Mechanic must be knowledgeable about industry standards, local codes, and safety regulations.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Repair work includes, but is not limited to, preventative maintenance, electrical troubleshooting, overhaul and repair of non-refrigerant components of building systems HVAC and Mechanical equipment.
  • Maintains and repairs critical, specialized high-profile equipment, i.e. decorative fountains and non-refrigerated components of the stadium sky box heating and cooling equipment.
  • Maintains assigned building systems and equipment and ensures that it is operating efficiently, functioning properly as per design intent and meeting established operational guidelines.
  • Troubleshoots, repairs and overhauls equipment such as air handlers, exhaust fans, pumps, evaporative coolers, cooling towers, air compressors, vacuum pumps, bearings, electric motors, and other environmental changing devices and other mechanical equipment or electrical components.
  • Installs, maintains or repairs air handlers, fan coils, exhaust fans, air compressors, pumps, vacuum pumps, evaporative coolers, belts, bearings, sheaves, and other ventilation and air conditioning equipment.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel and various workstation software.
  • Familiar with hand and power tools and with testing and troubleshooting equipment.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
  • Providing excellent customer service and educating clients on system usage and maintenance.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to lift/move up to 50 lbs.

Minimum Qualifications
