To be eligible for a sign-on bonus, the candidate must not have worked as a probationary, permanent, or time-limited employee in the last 12 months as an employee subject to the State Human Resources Act.
This position is at Pasquotank Correctional Institution in Elizabeth City/Pasquotank County. Positions in this class perform the full range of journey work duties associated with the construction, maintenance, and repair of air-conditioning systems and associated air handling, chilled water distribution, and control mechanisms. They also maintain refrigeration units and their control systems. Work assignments are generally in the form of work orders. Positions are expected to identify the cause of problems, determine necessary materials and tools, and carry out repairs independently. Larger, complex jobs may be reviewed by a supervisor. This role may involve training or supervising other mechanics and performing preventive and routine maintenance on HVAC and refrigeration systems, including installing new equipment, charging refrigerants, and performing repairs. Electrical and pneumatic systems troubleshooting and repair are also part of the duties. The individual may be required to work weekends and holidays if necessary.
This is a full-time position (40 hours/week) with State Benefits.
Note to Current State Employees: The salary grade for this position is NC08. Salary will be recalculated based on relevant experience, education, and internal equity, potentially resulting in a pay increase. As of January 1, 2025, the salary range is $37,782 - $66,120. Applicants must possess a working knowledge of practices, methods, materials, and equipment used in the operation, maintenance, and repair of industrial air conditioning and refrigeration systems. They must document all required qualifications on the application.
High school diploma or GED and three years of experience in installation, maintenance, or repair of air conditioning chillers, air handling, chilled water systems, and control systems, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Certification by the Environmental Protection Agency as a Type I, II, III, or Universal technician is required.
