This is a full-time position (40 hours per week) with State Benefits. The position is located at Mountain View Correctional Institution in Spruce Pine, NC.
Positions in this class perform journey-level duties related to the construction, maintenance, and repair of air-conditioning systems, air handling, chilled water distribution, and control mechanisms. Responsibilities include maintaining refrigeration units and their control systems. Work is generally assigned via work orders, and employees are expected to diagnose issues, determine necessary materials and tools, and perform repairs independently. Complex jobs may be reviewed by a supervisor. The role may include training new mechanics or supervising helpers.
The salary grade is NC08. State employees are encouraged to apply, and salary may be adjusted based on education, experience, funding, and internal equity. Effective January 1, 2025, the salary range will be $37,782.00 – $66,120.00.

High school diploma or GED plus three years of experience in HVAC installation, maintenance, or repair, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Certification by the EPA as a Type I, II, III, or Universal technician is required.
