Qualifications

• Certified Fuel Cell (CFC) technician certification or within 1–2 years of hire.

Responsibilities

What You’ll Do

As an HVAC Mechanic, you willreport to the Manager, Facilities Services. Performs a variety of duties including preventive maintenance, repair, alteration, and modification of building systems and equipment. Serves in the secondary capacity as, but not limited to, Refrigeration Technician, Pump/Motors/Compressors Technician, etc. Responds to and follows through on corrective maintenance of serious problems or conditions as reported by other Facility Staff or as instructed by a supervisory/management person.

HVAC Mechanic Job Responsibilities

• Install, operate, monitor, troubleshoot, repair, and maintain HVAC, refrigeration, boiler, pneumatic, and building automation systems to ensure safe and efficient facility operations.


• Respond to service requests and equipment issues across the hospital, diagnosing malfunctions and performing corrective maintenance to minimize downtime.


• Conduct preventive maintenance, inspections, testing, and performance evaluations using specialized tools and measurement devices.


• Operate and monitor Building Energy Management Systems (BEMS), high-pressure boilers, centrifugal chillers, and other critical facility equipment.


• Collaborate with architects, engineers, contractors, and leadership on facility expansion, construction, renovation, and equipment upgrade projects.


• Ensure all facility systems, maintenance activities, and construction projects comply with applicable codes, accreditation standards, and regulatory requirements.


• Review contractor and subcontractor qualifications, certifications, and work quality, including compliance with refrigerant and licensing requirements.


• Maintain accurate records of inspections, repairs, maintenance activities, service requests, labor, and materials utilized.


• Train, mentor, and support facility engineering staff through orientation, technical instruction, departmental training, and ongoing guidance.


• Assist with inspection, operation, and maintenance of building systems and equipment outside primary areas of expertise as needed.


• Maintain current operating procedures, training materials, and technical documentation to support departmental effectiveness and compliance.


• Promote a safe work environment by adhering to established safety protocols and maintaining clean, organized work areas.


• Stay current on industry advancements, emerging technologies, and best practices through professional development and training.


• Support departmental operations through participation in projects, emergency response activities, on-call responsibilities, and other duties as assigned.

What You Bring

As an HVAC Mechanic, this position requires certification as a Certified Fuel Cell (CFC) technician, which may be obtained within one to two years of hire, along with the mechanical aptitude to inspect, maintain, and repair a variety of hospital equipment using specialized hand and power tools. The ideal candidate possesses strong computer skills to manage and modify energy management control systems, as well as a solid understanding of shop mathematics and blueprint interpretation. Success in this role also requires strong analytical and troubleshooting abilities to diagnose equipment issues, interpret technical data, and implement effective solutions. Additionally, excellent interpersonal skills are essential to maintain positive, professional relationships with hospital staff, team members, and the public.

Required Qualifications

• The knowledge, skills and abilities as indicated below are normally acquired through the successful completion of a high school diploma or equivalent.


• Continuous education or course work related to area of HVAC specialty preferred.


• Three to five years of related on-the-job experience at a large/complex, commercial/institutional building to acquire the necessary skills and knowledge of assigned equipment and facilities, knowledge of complex commercial and institutional maintenance procedures, including HVAC, basic electricity, basic plumbing, energy management control systems and pneumatic control systems and knowledge necessary to attain administrative-level access to energy management systems also preferred.
