The Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority is seeking an HVAC Mechanic to operate, maintain, and modify heating and air-handling equipment across airport facilities, ensuring safe, efficient HVAC operation within codes.

As an HVAC Mechanic, you will be responsible for operating, maintaining, and modifying heating and air-handling equipment to provide efficient operation of HVAC systems within prescribed safety limits and in according with appropriate codes. Your work will ensure the safety and comfort of airport users, staff, and tenants.
HVAC Mechanic Serves in the Utilities Division in the Engineering and Maintenance Department at Washington Dulles International Airport (IAD). Operates, maintains, and repairs heating and air-handling systems and related HVAC equipment ranging from low-pressure boilers to high-temperature hot-water boilers and from small exhaust fans to multi-zoned air-handling units with multi-filtering systems. Also works on air intake fans, mixed-air fans, high-voltage HVAC units used with high-temperature hot-water and chilled water, ventilation units, exhaust fans in manholes, variable air volume boxes, heat pumps which heat or cool air, various pumps and air compressors, diffusers, and ductwork. Performs related functions.
A high school diploma or a Certificate of General Educational Development (GED).
A state driver’s license in good standing.
Operates vehicle airside and landside (requires AOA permit). Work is typically reviewed in progress and upon completion for quantity, quality, timeliness, teamwork, customer service, and other factors. Work requires moderate to heavy physical exertion (lifting objects up to 50 pounds). May bend, stoop, crouch, and work in a cramped position. May be subject to potential hazards common to the HVAC trades, such as high-pressure boilers, compressors, and large fans; hazardous substances; possible burns and scalds; falls; and gas leaks. Wears personal protective gear, as necessary. Is subject to hold-over and recall on a 24-hour basis for essential services and emergencies, such as snow removal.
