Responsibilities

  • Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on large boilers, chillers, hot water systems, and domestic plumbing.
  • Inspect and repair air handling units, VAV components, and HVAC equipment for energy efficiency.
  • Operate and troubleshoot mechanical systems, pumps, heat exchangers, and hydraulics.
  • Diagnose electrical issues related to HVAC and building equipment; follow safety procedures.
  • Service BAS and HVAC controls to ensure reliable operations.
  • Carry out general building maintenance such as carpentry and painting as needed.
  • Inspect buildings to identify issues and implement corrective actions promptly.
  • Document maintenance and repairs accurately per facility procedures.
  • Collaborate with maintenance staff across trades to coordinate work.
  • Provide hands-on support to resolve equipment failures and minimize downtime.

Job Title: HVAC Mechanic

This full-time HVAC Mechanic role supports facilities operations and maintenance at a large courthouse. You will perform preventive and corrective maintenance on complex commercial heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and building systems, ensuring safe, reliable, and efficient operation of the facilitys mechanical, electrical, and plumbing infrastructure.

Job Description
  • Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on large commercial boilers, chillers, hot water heating systems, and domestic water plumbing systems.

  • Inspect, maintain, and repair air handling units, VAV components, and other HVAC equipment to ensure optimal performance and energy efficiency.

  • Operate, troubleshoot, and repair complex mechanical systems, including pumps, heat exchangers, hydraulics, and pneumatics used in building operations.

  • Diagnose and repair issues in electrical systems associated with HVAC and building equipment, following safety procedures and best practices.

  • Maintain and service Building Automation Systems (BAS) and HVAC control systems to support reliable building operations.

  • Perform general building maintenance tasks such as carpentry, painting, and facilities upkeep as needed to support overall facility operations.

  • Conduct routine inspections of commercial building systems to identify potential issues and implement corrective actions promptly.

  • Document maintenance activities, repairs, and inspections accurately and timely in accordance with facility procedures.

  • Collaborate with other maintenance personnel and trades to coordinate work on mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems.

  • Provide hands‑on support in troubleshooting and resolving equipment failures to minimize downtime in a commercial facility environment.

Essential Skills
  • Minimum of five (5) years of recent commercial HVAC experience working on large commercial heating and air conditioning equipment.

  • EPA Universal certification.

  • Competence in performing preventive and corrective maintenance on boilers, chillers, hot water heating systems, domestic water plumbing systems, air handlers, and VAV components.

  • Hands‑on expertise with chillers, boilers, pumps, and heat exchangers.

  • Experience maintaining and repairing HVAC systems and Building Automation Systems.

  • General maintenance knowledge of complex mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems in commercial facilities.

  • Experience in commercial building maintenance, including troubleshooting and facilities maintenance.

  • High school diploma or equivalent.

  • Ability to read, interpret, and follow technical instructions and maintenance procedures.

  • Strong troubleshooting skills for HVAC, mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems.

  • Previous commercial facility experience.

Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Technical training in HVAC is highly desired.

  • Willingness to obtain NATE Certification within 6 months of employment, with certification costs covered by the company.

  • Experience with building maintenance tasks such as carpentry and painting.

  • Experience in HVAC service, installation, and maintenance in industrial or facilities environments.

  • Familiarity with hydraulics and pneumatics used in building systems.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $66560.00 - $87841.00/yr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job‑related factors.

Health and Welfare Pay: $1,254.25 per month (per CBA). This position also offers vacation, sick leave, paid holidays and pension plan per the collective bargaining agreement.
