Responsibilities

  • Assist in construction, repair, preventive maintenance, assembly and installation of HVAC systems.
  • Load, deliver, unload, and handle materials; operate shop vehicles as needed.
  • Assist contractors in accessing facilities and structures.
  • Support procurement of equipment and materials for maintenance projects.
  • Work in conditioned or unconditioned spaces and mechanical rooms.

HVAC MechanicFLSA ClassificationnonexemptReports toAssistant Director of Building & GroundsJob DescriptionSummary/objectiveHVAC mechanics provide general maintenance and repair services to HVAC equipment. They perform these tasks in shop or on-site, indoors or out, using a wide variety of tools and equipment. They may be required to work additional hours or on weekends to meet service requirements. They have refrigerant recovery cards for all types of recovery.Essential functionsReasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform these essential functions.Assist in construction, repair, preventive maintenance, assembly, and installation of HVAC systems; chill water, boilers, chemical mixing equipment, and condensate systems.Assist in completion of minor construction projectsAssist in procuring equipment and materials necessary for maintenance projects and minor construction.Loads, delivers, unloads, and handles materials. Operates shop vehicles necessary to complete these tasks.Assists contractors in locating and gaining access to facilities and structures within them.CompetenciesKnowledge of different types of HVAC systems to include, Boilers, Chillers, Heat Pumps, Ductless Split Systems, Fan Coil Units, Exhaust & Makeup air Fans,DDC & Pneumatic air controls.Able to read and follow electrical control wiring diagrams.Ability to read Blue Prints.Supervisory responsibilitiesNoneWork environmentConditioned/ unconditioned spacesMechanical rooms, Roof top workConfined spacesPhysical demandsRequires full range of body motion, including reaching, stooping, kneeling, climbing, and walking. Must have good vision, with or without corrective lenses.Travel requiredTravel required is limited to on campus and periodically off campus to obtain materials required to perform your daily duties. Randolph College requires a valid driver’s license issued from the state of Virginia to operate a college owned vehicle and as a prerequisite to driving a college owned vehicle the job applicant must pass a driver safety session with the campus security department.Required education and experienceHigh school diploma or equivalent.Completion of formal training or at least two years’ experience in HVAC maintenance work with a journeyman’s level knowledge of HVAC systems and equipment.
