Job Opportunity: Facility Maintenance Technician – Mechanical Trades (Journey Level)

A sign-on bonus of $4,000 is available for the successful applicant of this position, paid in two installments within months of hire: $2,000 within days of hire date and $2,000 after months of hire.

This recruitment is for three (3) Facility Maintenance Tech – MechTrd – Journey positions. By applying, you will be considered for all three positions.

Responsibilities

1. Support campus HVAC systems, refrigeration equipment, and complex air drying systems.
2. Perform preventive maintenance and repairs on refrigerated air drying equipment, DX units, package units, ice machines, Liebert systems, dehumidification systems, and small chiller systems.
3. Troubleshoot complex control circuits, replace compressors, repair refrigerant leaks, replace fan/blower motors, and change mechanical and electrical controls.
4. Maintain EPA refrigerant management log.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

High school diploma or equivalency; or demonstrated competency to perform the work. Some positions may require licenses or certifications. Experience in HVAC/Refrigeration may substitute for education on a year-for-year basis.

Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience

• Experience in HVAC/Refrigeration and EPA refrigerant certification.
• Ability to read refrigerant gauges, troubleshoot HVAC/Refrigeration equipment, and determine corrective actions.
• Proficiency with multimeters and electrical testing methods.
• Ability to read electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and mechanical drawings.
• Experience in refrigerant recovery and maintaining logs.
• Ability to use Windows PC, tablets, and smartphones to access maintenance systems.
• Excellent customer service skills.

Additional Requirements

May be required to work in high containment labs and healthcare facilities, which involves vaccinations, medical certifications, and specialized training. Must be able to serve as a mandatory employee, report to work during emergencies, and participate in on-call duties including nights, weekends, and holidays.

Must possess a valid North Carolina Driver’s License or obtain one prior to start. EPA refrigerant certification must be obtained within the first year of employment. Must contribute to safety culture, energy efficiency, and water conservation efforts.

Physical ability to move objects and work at heights, outdoors in adverse weather, and wear PPE is required.
