HVAC Maintenance Skilled Worker
Hours: 3p–11:30p
Location: 1800 Orleans Street, Baltimore, MD
Pay range: $20–$22 per hour
Responsibilities
- Perform maintenance, installation, and repair work on HVAC systems, equipment, and components under close supervision and using the tools and techniques of HVAC technology.
- Identify HVAC equipment problems and component conditions; submit identified problems to a supervisor or higher level HVAC mechanic for directed resolution.
- Read and interpret schematic and construction drawings, service manuals, and other technical documents, sometimes with the aid of a supervisor or higher level HVAC mechanic.
- Follow instructions provided by blueprints, drawings, written materials, work orders, and oral instructions.
- Communicate (written and oral) with supervisors and departmental or JHM staff.
- Assimilate JHH/departmental mission, policies, procedures, and specific job safety aspects.
- Work in shop and mechanical area environments with exposure to dust, heat, cold, noise, and fumes.
- Enter confined spaces and work in awkward positions.
- Work at heights of up to 30 feet above surface using ladders, lifts, and equipment.
- Stand, walk, or sit for extended periods of time.
- Load, unload, and transport/position tools, equipment, and materials, and push/pull loaded hand trucks weighing up to 75 pounds.
- Possible exposure to communicable diseases, hazardous materials, and pharmacological agents has low likelihood of harm when established health precautions are followed.
- Use protective safety devices including safety glasses, gloves, hearing protection, infection‑prevention apparel/apparatus, and a back belt.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Successful completion of one year (or current enrollment in) formal training in a state‑approved Journey HVAC program at a vocational or technical school, college, or apprenticeship sponsor organization.
- Fundamental knowledge of HVAC techniques, codes, procedures, and materials.
- Knowledge of safety rules, procedures, and practices, including proper use of safety equipment as defined by OSHA and industry standards.
- Ability to apply HVAC and safety knowledge indicated herein.
- Ability to safely use tools and equipment indicated herein.
- Ability to solve problems and manage information indicated herein.
- Proficient written and verbal English communication skills, at least at a high school graduate level, to interact with departmental or JHM staff.
- Ability to identify and avoid hazards as indicated by warning labels, signage, lights, and other warning devices.
