POSITION SUMMARY:

The Lead Installation Technician is responsible for the complete and satisfactory installation of residential HVAC equipment and accessories. Oversees the work of Assistant Installation Technician to ensure work is performed correctly, communicates with customers to answer questions, resolve problems, and ensure complete customer satisfaction.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Installs heating, air conditioning, and ventilation equipment, as well as accessories, in accordance with company standards/requirements and manufacturer specifications.
2. Designs, fabricates, and installs various ducts and duct fittings as necessary.
3. Performs limited diagnostics, as necessary.
4. Maintain a clean work area and safeguard client floors by laying drop cloths while performing installations.
5. Wear floor savers while working in client homes.
6. Inspection of area for cleanliness after job completion.
7. Completion of installation forms which reflect tasks performed for reporting accuracy and future comparison.
8. Effectively communicates with customer regarding questions, concerns, and problems.
9. Performs start‐ups on heating, cooling systems, and other components.
10. Responsible for the delivery and removal of equipment needed to complete installation work.
11. Confirms company vehicle is in safe working order.
12. Ensures company property, vehicles, and tools are being properly used, maintained, and accounted for.
13. Maintains safe working conditions for the installation crew.
14. Ensures the company vehicle is properly stocked, returns defective warranty parts to the branch, and orders/replenishes vehicle stock as needed.
15. Trains apprentice to:
1. Properly fill out and organize job folder.
2. Set an air conditioner, heat pump, furnace or air handler.
3. Braze copper joints without leaks.
4. Pull vacuums on refrigerant systems and test for tightness.
5. Correctly install all versions of thermostats and wiring.
6. Program all programmable thermostats.
7. Install, wire, and plumb all IAQ products.
8. Install duct work transitions in sheet metal and duct board.
9. Install gas lines, flue pipes, and wiring for high and low voltage wiring applications.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, and ABILITIES:

1. Must have a minimum of 3 years of verifiable installation work history.
2. Knowledge of the fundamentals of operational functionality of residential heating, air conditioning, and ventilation equipment.
3. Knowledge of the layout and installation requirements of residential duct work and fittings.
4. Skilled in reading wiring diagrams and troubleshooting problems with electrical, refrigerant, and duct systems on residential HVAC equipment.
5. Solid communication and customer service skills.
6. Must have appropriate trade tools.
7. Valid driver’s license and a clean driving record.
8. Ability to pass a background check and drug screen.

EDUCATIONAL/CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

1. GED or High School Diploma.
2. EPA Certification.

QUALIFICATIONS:

1. NATE Certification.
2. HVAC Certification or Diploma.

ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS:

Extreme temperatures. Climbing, heavy lifting, loud noise, crawling, working in confined spaces, pushing/pulling, carrying equipment, bending, turning, kneeling.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

1. Capability of lifting 75 pounds.
2. Capability to carry items weighing 75 pounds.
3. Ability to stand, walk, and climb ladders and stairs.
4. Ability to work in confined spaces and to maneuver in attics, basements, and crawl spaces to access HVAC units.
5. Ability to continually climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, and/or crawl.
6. Natural or corrected vision to see and focus for close, distance, peripheral vision with normal depth.
