Job summary

The Technical College of the Lowcountry seeks an HVAC Instructor to deliver high-quality HVAC instruction across multiple campus locations including Ridgeland, Colleton, Hampton, Beaufort and Bluffton. The role encompasses curriculum development, student advisement, and program management to support student success.

Qualified candidates combine instructional expertise with industry credentials such as NATE, EPA, and Heat Pump certs; an associate degree is required with a bachelor’s preferred.

Qualifications

  • Associate's degree in appropriate discipline (required).
  • Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • NATE certification preferred.
  • Certification in Heat Pump and EPA universal required.

Responsibilities

  • Teach HVAC courses at multiple locations per syllabi.
  • Develop and refine HVAC curriculum and courses.
  • Advise and assist HVAC program students.
  • Participate in college committees and program assessments.
  • Maintain HVAC labs and ensure state-of-the-art equipment.

Job description

Job Purpose:

The HVAC Instructor is responsible to the Division Dean for Industrial Technology for the delivery of quality instruction and management of students enrolled in HVAC courses and advisement of students in the HVAC Programs. Responsibilities occur in the areas of instructional development, teaching performance, student advisement, professional development, college/community service, and instructional management. The HVAC position will be required to teach at multiple locations including Ridgeland Correctional Facilities, Colleton, Hampton, Beaufort and Bluffton Campus.

Job Duties:
INSTRUCTIONAL DEVELOPMENT

1. Work with members of the HVAC Advisory Committee to participate in planning for new and existing programs and courses.

2. Assist in the development of the HVAC curriculum for students in the HVAC program.

3. Evaluate courses in the HVAC curriculum.

4. Assist in the Refinement of Curriculum for HVAC courses.

TEACHING PERFORMANCE

1. Teach courses as assigned and in accordance with the established syllabi.

2. Provide high quality instruction in HVAC for students on a regular basis.

3. Assess the accomplishments of students on a regular basis.

4. Participate in the Faculty Performance Management System.

5. Achieve at least a 3.5 on student evaluations and satisfactory peer/supervisor evaluations.

STUDENT ADVISEMENT

1. Work with the Student Services Division in the selection, recruitment, admission and retention of students and to utilize counseling services.

2. Advise and maintain records of assigned student advisees in accordance with divisional policy and procedures.

3. Provide effective academic advisement for students enrolled in the HVAC Program.

4. Cooperate with the Student Services Division in the placement and follow-up of students.

5. Maintain office hours as required to meet needs of students, faculty, and advisees.

PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT

1. Represent the Division and College by participating in community and professional meetings.

2. Attend relevant professional meetings.

3. Maintain a current awareness of educational innovations and trends appropriate to provision of high quality instruction in content area.

COLLEGE COMMUNITY SERVICE

1. Actively initiate and perform effective student recruitment activities in high schools and in the community.

2. Implement marketing activities for Heating-Ventilation program.

3. Utilize the services of staff specialists and coordinators.

4. Maintain contacts with appropriate professional and community organizations/individuals in the College service area.

5. Serve actively on College committees.

6. Work cooperatively with other divisional faculty members and College divisions to meet the educational needs of students.

INSTRUCTIONAL MANAGEMENT

1. Foster and promote the relevance of language and communications skills for all degree and certificate programs.

2. Maintain proper control and effective use of all physical facilities and supplies in the assigned division.

3. Prepare reports in cooperation with division dean for input into the planning/reporting system.

4. Administer student regulations within the division.

5. Insure communication of policies, procedures, and campus information to all students.

6. Perform additional duties, as assigned by the Division Dean.

7. Maintain HVAC labs at state -of-art standards.

8. Maintain appropriate vendor specific certifications related to instructional program.
