Job summary

John Nugent & Sons in Sterling, VA is seeking an experienced Lead HVAC Installer to own residential installation projects from start to finish. You will lead a crew, guide apprentices, and work closely with sales, warehouse, service, and operations teams to keep installations moving efficiently.

The ideal candidate has proven leadership in HVAC installations, strong troubleshooting skills, and EPA Universal Certification.

Qualifications

  • Experience leading residential HVAC replacement and installation projects.
  • Ability to independently complete residential HVAC installations from start to finish.
  • EPA Universal Certification required; Virginia licenses preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Lead residential HVAC replacement and installation projects from start to finish.
  • Install furnaces, air conditioners, heat pumps, air handlers, mini-splits, thermostats, and IAQ equipment.
  • Complete ductwork modifications, refrigerant piping, condensate drainage, venting, gas piping, wiring, and related system connections.
  • Direct, train, and support apprentices and installation helpers.
  • Review job details and identify equipment, material, or scope concerns before and during installation.
  • Perform equipment startups, charging, airflow verification, system testing, and commissioning.
  • Troubleshoot installation issues and ensure work meets manufacturer requirements, applicable codes, and company standards.
  • Protect customers’ homes and maintain clean, organized, and safe jobsites.
  • Explain system operation, maintenance expectations, and warranty information to homeowners.
  • Complete accurate job documentation, equipment records, and required photos.
  • Coordinate with sales, service, dispatch, warehouse, and operations teams.
  • Maintain assigned vehicles, tools, equipment, materials, and inventory.

We’re looking for an experienced Lead HVAC Installer who can take ownership of residential installation projects, solve challenges in the field, and set the standard for quality and professionalism. You’ll lead projects from start to finish, guide apprentices and helpers, and work closely with our sales, warehouse, service, and operations teams to keep installations moving efficiently.

What You’ll Do
  • Lead residential HVAC replacement and installation projects from start to finish.

What We’re Looking For
  • Previous experience leading residential HVAC replacement and installation projects.
  • Ability to independently complete residential HVAC installations from start to finish.
  • Strong knowledge of furnaces, air conditioners, heat pumps, air handlers, mini-splits, ductwork, refrigeration, airflow, venting, and system commissioning.
  • Strong troubleshooting, leadership, and jobsite problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to train, coach, and direct apprentices or installation helpers.
  • Commitment to quality workmanship, safety, and code compliance.
  • Strong communication and customer service skills.
  • EPA Universal Certification required.
  • Applicable Virginia trade licenses or certifications preferred.
  • Comfortable using tablets, mobile applications, and field service software.
  • Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.
  • Ability to perform physical work in attics, basements, crawl spaces, mechanical rooms, and outdoor conditions.
