Job summary

University of Houston System seeks an entry-level HVAC maintenance assistant in the Department of Preventive Maintenance. The role supports a journey HVAC mechanic in repairing and maintaining heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration systems in university buildings.

Responsibilities include gathering tools, lifting and positioning tasks, routine maintenance like cleaning units and replacing filters, cleaning up after work, and keeping equipment and supplies organized.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Basic knowledge of grammar, spelling, punctuation, and simple math functions (percentages, ratios).

Responsibilities

• Gathers tools and supplies for the work site as instructed.
• Assists in lifting, positioning, and fastening objects and equipment; removes old equipment as required.
• Assist in routine maintenance such as cleaning units, replacing filters, rust removal and repainting, draining and filling oil reservoirs.
• Cleans up after jobs and keeps shop neat.
• Maintains tools and equipment in good condition and keeps supplies organized.
• Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

Department: Preventive Maintenance

Salary: Commensurate with Experience/Education

Assists journey HVAC mechanic in repairing and maintaining heating, ventilating, air conditioning and refrigeration systems in university owned buildings. Pursuant to the State of Texas Executive Order No. GA-48, this position researches, works on, or has access to critical infrastructure and requires the ability to maintain the security or integrity of the University infrastructure. This position requires personnel be routinely reviewed to determine whether or not criminal history or continuous connections for the government or political apparatus of a foreign adversary might prevent the employee from being able to maintain the security or integrity of the infrastructure.

1.Gathers tools and supplies to be used at work site, according to instructions.

2. Assists in lifting, positioning and fastening objects and equipment; removes old equipment as required.

3. Assist in the more routine maintenance chores, such as cleaning units, filter replacement, rust removal and repainting, draining and filling oil reservoirs.

4. Cleans up after jobs at the work site and maintains shop clean and neat.

5. Assists in maintaining tools and equipment in good condition, and in keeping supplies and parts in order.

6. Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

Department is willing to accept education in lieu of experience.

MQ: Requires a basic knowledge of grammar, spelling, punctuation and simple mathematical functions like percentages, ratios, etc. as might normally be acquired through attainment of a high school diploma or GED. Education verification will be conducted upon acceptance of an employment offer.
