Job summary

University of Pennsylvania is seeking a Controls Technician to maintain building automation and control systems supporting HVAC operations across academic, research, and residential facilities. The role emphasizes preventive maintenance, system optimization, and reliability enhancements.

The position participates in Enhanced Preventive Maintenance and Systems Performance Verification programs, ensuring equipment is well-maintained and issues resolved promptly.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Must have HVAC-related apprenticeship or trade school/military training.
• Experience with commercial/industrial HVAC systems (5+ years).
• Knowledge of building HVAC SCADA/Control systems and related PPE.

Responsibilities

• Align pulleys and belts; inspect and maintain HVAC equipment.
• Troubleshoot building automation systems and resolve control issues.
• Inspect, install, and adjust control devices and insulation.
• Dismantle/repair HVAC equipment and electrical components as needed.
• Plan procedures and select materials per job requirements.
• Ensure safety standards and compliance (NEC, OSHA, NFPA70E).
• Coordinate with other trades and departments as needed.
