We are seeking an experienced HVAC Controls Technician to join a growing Building Automation team supporting commercial, industrial, healthcare, educational, and municipal facilities throughout the Gulf Coast region.
This field-based position is responsible for installing, commissioning, troubleshooting, and servicing HVAC controls and Building Automation Systems (BAS). The ideal candidate has hands-on experience with DDC controls, low-voltage systems, and commercial HVAC equipment, along with strong troubleshooting and customer-service skills.
Responsibilities
- Install, configure, commission, troubleshoot, and maintain HVAC controls and BAS systems.
- Perform controller startup, point-to-point testing, wiring inspections, functional testing, and system commissioning.
- Troubleshoot DDC controllers, sensors, actuators, valves, dampers, VFDs, communication networks, and related field devices.
- Read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, control drawings, sequences of operation, and project specifications.
- Diagnose and resolve electrical, controls, communication, and system-performance issues.
- Support startup, commissioning, optimization, and performance verification of new and existing BAS installations.
- Coordinate with Project Managers, Engineers, Programmers, subcontractors, and customers throughout project execution.
- Train customers and facility personnel on system operation, maintenance, and basic troubleshooting.
- Complete service reports, commissioning documentation, startup records, and other required paperwork.
- Perform preventative maintenance, inspections, and service calls as needed.
- Maintain high standards of safety, workmanship, and professionalism on every jobsite.
- 2+ years of experience with HVAC controls, BAS, DDC controls, or related low-voltage systems.
- Strong understanding of commercial HVAC equipment, control sequences, and building automation.
- Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, control drawings, and sequences of operation.
- Experience troubleshooting electrical, controls, communication, and BAS issues.
- Familiarity with controllers, sensors, actuators, relays, valves, dampers, VFDs, and other control devices.
- Experience with BAS platforms such as Tridium Niagara, Johnson Controls, Siemens, Schneider Electric, Honeywell, Distech, Alerton, Carrier, or similar.
- Working knowledge of BACnet, Modbus, LonWorks, or other building automation protocols.
- Commercial HVAC controls commissioning experience is preferred.
- EPA certification, electrical license, or relevant technical certifications are a plus.
- Strong communication, customer-service, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Valid driver's license and willingness to travel throughout the Gulf Coast region.
