Building Automation Technician – Mid to Senior Level

About the Role
We are seeking a Mid to Senior-Level Building Automation Technician to join a growing team working on commercial building automation and HVAC controls projects throughout the Miami / Fort Lauderdale market.
This is a hands‑on field position suited to an experienced BAS / Controls Technician who can independently install, start up, commission, troubleshoot, and service building automation systems.
The ideal candidate will have strong experience with BAS/DDC controls, HVAC systems, electrical troubleshooting, programming, and commissioning.
Key Responsibilities
- Install, terminate, start up, and commission BAS/DDC control systems.
- Troubleshoot and diagnose controls, HVAC, electrical, and communication issues.
- Perform point‑to‑point testing and system verification.
- Read and interpret control drawings, wiring diagrams, schematics, and sequences of operation.
- Configure and troubleshoot controllers, sensors, actuators, VFDs, and other control devices.
- Perform BAS programming and system modifications where required.
- Work with technicians, engineers, project managers, and mechanical contractors to complete projects.
- Identify system issues and provide effective technical solutions.
- Perform system testing and commissioning.
- Support integration of HVAC equipment into BAS networks.
- Troubleshoot BACnet, MS/TP, IP, and other controls communication networks.
- Complete service reports, commissioning documentation, and project closeout documentation.
- Provide technical support and guidance to junior technicians.
- Maintain a high standard of safety, workmanship, and customer service.
- Travel locally throughout the South Florida market as required.
Required Qualifications
- 3+ years of experience working with Building Automation Systems / HVAC Controls.
- Strong understanding of BAS/DDC systems.
- Experience with HVAC controls installation, startup, commissioning, and troubleshooting.
- Ability to read electrical drawings, control schematics, and mechanical plans.
- Strong understanding of HVAC equipment and sequences of operation.
- Experience troubleshooting controllers, sensors, actuators, VFDs, and control networks.
- Ability to work independently in the field.
- Strong customer service and communication skills.
- Valid driver's license.
Preferred Experience
Experience with one or more of the following platforms:
- Johnson Controls
- Siemens
- Trane
- Honeywell
- Automated Logic
- Other major BAS/DDC platforms
Additional experience with BACnet, Modbus, MS/TP, Ethernet/IP, graphics, programming, and system integration is highly desirable.
Senior‑Level Candidates
Senior candidates should be capable of:
- Taking ownership of BAS projects from installation through commissioning.
- Leading technical troubleshooting in the field.
- Modifying and developing BAS programs.
- Working with Niagara or other major BAS platforms.
- Supporting junior technicians and providing technical direction.
- Communicating directly with customers and project management.
- Managing complex controls integration and commissioning issues.
