AlphaGov seeks an experienced HVAC Controls Technician to join our Building Automation and Controls team. This field-based role covers installation, startup, commissioning, and service of BAS across commercial, industrial, healthcare, educational, and municipal facilities along the Gulf Coast.

The ideal candidate brings hands-on experience with DDC controls, low-voltage systems, and BAS platforms, plus strong troubleshooting and customer-service skills.

Qualifications

• 2+ years of experience in HVAC controls or BAS.
• Hands-on experience with DDC controls and low-voltage systems.
• Ability to read electrical schematics and sequences of operation.
• Strong troubleshooting and customer-service skills.
• Travel and valid driver's license for Gulf Coast travel.

Responsibilities

• Install, startup, commission, troubleshoot, and service BAS and HVAC controls.
• Perform controller startup, testing, wiring inspections, and system commissioning.
• Troubleshoot DDC controllers, sensors, actuators, valves, dampers, and VFDs.
• Read wiring diagrams and sequences of operation.
• Coordinate with project teams and customers throughout project execution.
• Train customers on system operation and basic troubleshooting.
• Complete service reports and commissioning documentation.
• Maintain high safety and workmanship standards.

Job description

We are seeking an experienced HVAC Controls Technician to join a growing Building Automation and Controls team supporting commercial, industrial, healthcare, educational, and municipal facilities throughout the Gulf Coast region.

This field-based position will be responsible for the installation, startup, commissioning, troubleshooting, and service of HVAC controls and Building Automation Systems (BAS). The ideal candidate brings hands-on experience with DDC controls, low-voltage systems, commercial HVAC equipment, and BAS communication protocols, along with strong troubleshooting and customer-service skills.

Key Responsibilities

• Install, configure, start up, commission, troubleshoot, and service HVAC controls and BAS systems
• Perform controller startup, point-to-point testing, wiring inspections, functional testing, and system commissioning
• Troubleshoot DDC controllers, sensors, actuators, valves, dampers, VFDs, communication networks, and related field devices
• Read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, control drawings, sequences of operation, and project specifications
• Diagnose and resolve electrical, controls, communication, and system-performance issues
• Support system startup, commissioning, optimization, and performance verification for new and existing BAS installations
• Coordinate with Project Managers, Engineers, Programmers, subcontractors, and customers throughout project execution
• Train customers and facility personnel on system operation, maintenance, and basic troubleshooting
• Complete service reports, commissioning documentation, startup records, and required project paperwork
• Perform preventative maintenance, inspections, troubleshooting, and service calls as needed
• Maintain high standards of safety, workmanship, professionalism, and customer service

Requirements

• 2+ years of experience in HVAC controls, BAS, DDC controls, or related low-voltage systems
• Strong understanding of commercial HVAC equipment, control sequences, and building automation systems
• Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, control drawings, and sequences of operation
• Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot electrical, controls, communication, and BAS-related issues
• Hands-on experience with controllers, sensors, actuators, relays, valves, dampers, VFDs, and related control devices
• Experience with BAS platforms such as Tridium Niagara, Johnson Controls, Siemens, Schneider Electric, Honeywell, Distech, Alerton, Carrier, or similar systems
• Working knowledge of BACnet, Modbus, LonWorks, or other building automation communication protocols
• Commercial HVAC controls installation and commissioning experience preferred
• EPA certification, electrical license, or relevant technical certifications are a plus
• Strong communication, organization, problem-solving, and customer-service skills
• Valid driver's license and willingness to travel throughout the Gulf Coast region
