Job summary

AIR Carolinas is seeking a Controls Application Engineer to design software for HVAC system controls and provide technical expertise for internal and external customers in Charlotte, NC. The role may supervise the Controls Team to maximize unit performance and customer satisfaction.

Qualifications include a 2- or 4-year degree, 5+ years in leadership, and experience with Tridium/Niagara, CPT, Reliable, and KMC. Travel and a valid in-state license are required.

Qualifications

• Degree from an accredited institution (2- or 4-year) required.
• Minimum 5 years of leadership experience.
• Programming knowledge with Tridium/Niagara, CPT, Reliable, or KMC is a plus.
• Configuration knowledge of AAON controllers is a plus.
• Valid in-state driver's license; travel with overnight stays required.

Responsibilities

Job Description:

The Controls Application Engineer designs software programs for controls related to a specific HVAC system to improve functionality. This position provides technical advice and expertise on specific controls to support our internal/external customers. The Controls Application Engineer frequently assesses the functionality of the program to maximize the unit’s capability to the customer’s satisfaction. The Controls Application Engineer may supervise and coordinate the activities of the Controls Team.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Gathers information from customers on their needs and designs and develops a software program for controls that match their needs.
• Assures the program continues to work properly, while making recommendations for future testing, upgrades and maintenance.
• Frequently dials in through a cradle point to troubleshoot issues.
• Confers with Service & Controls Leadership to develop methods and procedures to increase productivity, sales, expand markets, and promote business.
• Works directly with the Service Coordinator and/or Project Manager, providing guidance when needed as scheduling, invoicing and billing issues arise.
• Provides technicians with assistance in performing difficult or complicated duties.
• Attends company meetings to exchange product information and coordinate work activities with other departments.
• Coordinates safety training and professional development for the Team.
• Performs all other duties as assigned.

Experience and Requirements:

• 2- or 4-year degree from an accredited trade school, college, or university preferred
• Minimum 5 years of leadership experience
• Programming knowledge and certifications with Tridium/Niagara, CPT, Reliable, KMC, etc. a plus
• Configuration knowledge of AAON Controllers, etc. a plus
• Valid in-state Driver’s License and clean driving record required. Carrier requirements are 21 years of age with a minimum of 3 years driving experience. Extensive travel is required with occasional overnight stays.

Physical Demands/Work Environment:

• While performing the duties of this job, the individual must be able to remain in a stationary position for 60 percent of the time while operating their computer and performing office work. The individual needs to frequently move about inside tight and cramped space. They constantly operate a computer and other office productivity machinery, such as a calculator, copy machine, fax machine, and computer. They must be able to exchange accurate information with customers and others in the office while interacting. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds. The individual must be capable of reviewing their work for errors and making adjustments as necessary.
• This position works in various settings, with some outdoor exposure during the day. The noise level in the work environment is usually low to moderate.
