Job summary

Trane in Upstate New York is hiring a Controls Estimator to provide detailed cost estimates for HVAC control projects. You’ll work with building owners and Account Managers to deliver competitive bids and robust cost breakdowns.

The role requires an engineering degree with 3–7 years in estimating or related fields, and familiarity with Building Automation and HVAC systems. Travel locally may be required; strong reading of plans is essential.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or higher in engineering or related field with 3–7 years of estimating/engineering experience.
• Experience with Building Automation, HVAC Controls or HVAC systems preferred.
• Strong understanding of construction processes: mechanical, electrical, plumbing.
• Ability to read plans/specs and perform take-offs and cost analysis.
• Proven ability to meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

• Prepare cost estimates for materials, labor, equipment, and subcontractors for HVAC control projects.
• Develop detailed scope from design-build plans and bid documents.
• Create estimates with drawings, vendor quotes, and cost breakdowns.
• Price purchased equipment and ensure quantity/size/voltage accuracy.
• Lead pre-bid meetings with Account Managers to review scope and strategy.
• Identify cost-saving opportunities and manage cost variations.
• Coordinate with Operations for outsourced engineering as needed.
