Job summary

Automated Solutions Group Inc. seeks a Control Systems Engineer to design, program, and implement building management systems for HVAC projects on various facilities, including data centers and labs.

You will generate sequences of operation and program control logic for Automated Logic controllers, integrating VAV systems and chiller plants. You will work with cross-functional teams, prepare design drawings, and develop graphics and operator interfaces while ensuring compliance with industry

Qualifications

  • Required: BS in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering (or similar field of study).
  • Preferred: 0-1+ years of related (HVAC, building controls, construction) experience.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel/Word) and Bluebeam PDF editor.
  • Ability to interpret HVAC plans and specifications with oversight.
  • Strong project visualization, schematic design and technical writing.
  • Excellent communication and ability to explain technical information.

Control Systems Engineer (HVAC)
Overview

The Control System Engineer will be involved in the design, programming and implementation of the Building Management System (BMS). The engineer will design a fully functional building control system utilizing information found in the scope letter and mechanical plans. A sequence of operation will be generated to convey equipment operation to the project team and will be utilized in the programming of Automated Logic’s programmable controllers. Function block programming is used to create a database of control programs that comprises the Building Automation System. Some of the common equipment being controlled and monitored includes VAV air handler systems, hot water and chilled water plants, electrical system integrations, and variable refrigerant fan coil systems.

Job Responsibilities

The following list captures the general responsibilities; however, each project has different specifications, goals, environmental conditions, and financial considerations.

  • Execution of highly varied Building Automation projects per the project schedule and design documents.
    • Develop engineered design drawings that meet the intent of the project scope and provide for the intended performance of the system(s).
    • Develop a Sequence of Operation to communicate system hardware design and define system programming requirements and operational parameters.
  • Development of application software for system operation using function block programming.
  • Development of system graphics using graphical editors.
  • Construction of intuitive and cohesive user interfaces for use by building operators.
    • Address technical questions and concerns from field personnel and facilitate general project communication.
    • In all job activities, maintain project integrity and company reputation through compliance with industry and company standards and best practices as defined by the company leadership.
Requirements
Education & Experience Requirements

Required: BS in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering (or similar field of study)

Preferred: 0 - 1+ years of related (HVAC, building controls, construction) work or internship experience

Technical Requirements
  • Mechanical aptitude and engineering common sense is a necessity.
  • Ability to interpret HVAC mechanical plans and specifications with oversight.
  • Good project visualization and schematic design skills required.
  • Competence with Microsoft Office (particularly Excel and Word) & Bluebeam PDF editor
  • Competence with Microsoft Visio (Advanced training will be provided)
  • Proficiency in technical writing
  • Ability to explain technical information to technical and non-technical audiences.
