Job summary

USA Mechanical & Energy Service, a long-standing HVAC-R service company, is seeking an Estimator based in East Granby, CT. The role involves independent work with Accounts, Sales, Project Managers, engineers, and vendors to develop scalable, bid-ready estimates for commercial HVAC projects.

The position requires proficiency in blueprint reading, estimating software, and MS Office/AutoCAD, with emphasis on timely bid delivery and cost analysis.

Qualifications

• Proficient with software platforms including Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, Zoom and cloud drives.
• Willingness to learn, coachable, and able to multi-task in a fast-paced environment.
• OSHA 10 or 30 required.

Responsibilities

• Develop proficiency in estimating software and processes.
• Perform take-offs of materials, labor and subcontractors for HVAC and Plumbing projects.
• Read blueprints and specifications; interpret to select materials and equipment.
• Prepare design/build and value engineering estimates; handle change-orders.
• Solicit subcontractor bids and vendor quotations; build long-term relationships with stakeholders.
• Create estimating spreadsheets and detailed proposals.
• Analyze job cost data from reports; ensure timely bid submission.

Job Summary:

As an Estimator you will be a critical partner helping to build a highly scalable, best-in-class commercial HVAC business. To be successful in this role, you will have to take the initiative to work independently and communicate with all involved from Accounts Sales personnel, Project Managers, other company Estimators, Engineer, Customers, Vendors & Sub-Contractors. This role will be based in East Granby, CT.

• Develop proficiency in the use and application of the Company estimating software and processes.
• Perform “take-offs” of materials, labor and subcontractors for HVAC and Plumbing projects.
• Proficiency in reading blueprints and specifications.
• Interpret specifications to understand correct materials and equipment to use in estimates.
• Prepare design/build budget estimates and value engineering estimates.
• Prepare estimates for change-orders on projects.
• Solicit and with subcontractor bids/vendor quotations.
• Establish strong relationships with subcontractors, vendors and customers.
• Ensure estimates are completed in a timely manner leaving sufficient time for review and approval prior to a bid date deadline.
• Create estimating spreadsheets and detailed proposals.
• Analyze job cost estimating data from reports.
• Strong verbal and communication skills to effectively negotiate with vendors & subcontractors to gain competitive knowledge and advantage.
• Communicate with customers to discover information about projects, the status of projects, our competitiveness in bidding, etc.
• Knowledge and proficiency in Microsoft Office projects and AutoCAD.
