Job summary

Johnson Controls is seeking a Senior Systems Engineer to supervise a team of engineers in hardware, software and network-level commissioning for projects. The role ensures compliance with legal requirements and ethical standards while driving cost-effective engineering and customer satisfaction.

The ideal candidate will lead and develop processes, collaborate with major projects and branch teams, and advocate safety and quality throughout project delivery.

Qualifications

  • Associate or Technical degree required; or equivalent work experience in HVAC controls (design/installation/commissioning).
  • Experience leading engineers and teams in HVAC/control projects.
  • Knowledge of control theory and building automation subsystems.
  • Experience integrating low voltage building subsystems and interpreting technical concepts for non-technical stakeholders.
  • Advanced computer skills, including drafting tools.

What you will do

Supervises a team of Engineers to perform hardware engineering, software engineering and network level commissioning for Projects. Ensures work performed in compliance with state, local and federal legal requirements and operates on the job with the highest ethics.

Employ's practices and develop processes to ensure cost-effective engineering while providing consistent delivery and customer satisfaction. Serves as an expert in application engineering. Works effectively with Major Projects and Branch teams.


How will you do it
  • Manages and schedules the workload of the Systems Engineering Team. Prioritizes work, supervises and coordinates projects to ensure progressand timely completion of the engineering deliverables. Provides timeframe estimates to project management for job cost evaluation.
  • Develops, implements, monitors and communicates the Systems Engineering team processes, strategies and standards. Provides engineering cost estimates during project development phases
  • Seeks out new and creative applications and operational techniques. Implements improvements in the processes, facilities, tools and equipment to improve quality, reliability, productivity, and to provide leading edge technology.
  • Provides advanced technical support on application or implementation issues. Serves as the Regional expert in application engineering.
  • Leads team of Systems Engineers to select controllers and end devices that will meet the specification and minimize the total cost of installation to ensure that the project cost comes in below estimate.
  • Utilizes financial, contract management and other management reports to evaluate team success.
  • Develops and maintains viable relationships with customers, consultants and architect engineers. Leverages these relationships as needed during project development and execution.
  • Maintains high level of engineering standards. Ensures maximum reuse of proven designs and programs.
  • Performs complex engineering and supports network commissioning as required on assigned projects.
  • Hires, retains, mentors, performance managers, and plans for career development of direct reports. Prepares and delivers clear performance expectations, performance reviews and development plans for direct reports.
  • Works with Major Projects and Branch teams to ensure timely delivery of engineering deliverables in order to maximize successful execution of projects.
  • Adheres to safety standards. High degree of regard to employee and subcontractor safety.

What we look for

Required
  • Associate or Technical degree, three years of related technical relevant work experience required;or equivalent work experience (with no degree) as a commercial HVAC Controls Technician, Engineer, or Installer
  • Ability to lead and empower a team of Engineers.
  • Eight plus years of demonstrated knowledge of the HVAC industry.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of control theory, automatic temperature controls, building automation systems and other building subsystemsfrom a design, installation, and/or commissioning perspective.
  • Demonstrated experience in the integration of low voltage building sub-systems using various industry protocols. Ability to relate technical knowledge to a non-technical audience.
  • Demonstrated advanced computer skills required, particularly computer-related drafting tools.
  • Travel to job sites outside of the area as needed to support the customer needs.

Preferred
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering with a minimum of three years of experience.

HIRING SALARY RANGE: $100,000 - $120,000 (Salary to be determined by the education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities of the applicant, internal equity, and alignment with market data.) This role offers a competitive Bonus plan that will consider individual, group, and corporate performance. This position includes a competitive benefits package.
