Our Controls Shop is a high-performing team within the Facilities Operations and Maintenance department at St. Jude. The Building Automation/Controls Technician for HVAC provides preventive and corrective maintenance on electronic and pneumatic controls and automation systems, responding to abnormal conditions and emergencies. This role acts as the primary controls contact for pneumatic and electronic controls issues beyond initial responses by HVAC Mechanics.

Key responsibilities include:

1. Supporting the Equipment Facilities Support Technician and the Building Automation Systems Engineer.
2. Providing basic test and balance services to various departments.
3. Maintaining electronic and pneumatic facility controls, responding to emergencies.
4. Serving as the primary controls contact for pneumatic and electronic controls issues.
5. Performing installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and testing of building automation systems under the BAS Engineer’s supervision.
6. Utilizing campus automation systems (e.g., METASYS, ISIS) for operations and record-keeping.
7. Developing energy management strategies to minimize costs.
8. Responding to facility emergencies and assisting management as needed.
9. Maintaining accurate inventories of alarmed equipment and supporting utility management.
10. Supporting safety, compliance, and operational documentation.

Minimum qualifications:

• HS diploma/GED required; Associate’s Degree preferred in relevant fields.
• At least 10 years of experience with building automation systems installation, operation, and maintenance.
• Experience with electronic and pneumatic controls preferred.
• Test and balance experience preferred.
• First-Class Steam & Refrigeration Operating Engineer’s License within three years of hire.

Physical and environmental demands: The role involves physical activities such as lifting up to 50 pounds, working in various environmental conditions, and using multiple senses for safety and operational tasks.

Compensation: Estimated at $31.50 - $55.00 per hour, with benefits. Salary is commensurate with experience and qualifications.
