Job summary

Johnson Controls is seeking an HVAC Mechanic Apprentice (Union) to join our federal team supporting the Washington Navy Yard in Washington, D.C. This role involves assisting Journeyman Mechanics, performing preventative maintenance on HVAC equipment, and troubleshooting issues under the labor agreement with Union 602.

You will be expected to undertake on-the-job training, maintain good communication with managers and customers, and obtain necessary government clearances as required.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Ability to perform general building maintenance.
• Self-starter with ability to work independently.
• Valid driver’s license.
• Ability to supplement on-the-job training with apprenticeship coursework.
• Good verbal and written communication skills.
• Must be willing to join local union 602.
• Ability to obtain and maintain government clearances and badges.

Responsibilities

• Primarily perform HVAC mechanical equipment service support, some electrical and controls work.
• Assist Journeyman Mechanics with more complex problems.
• Support preventative maintenance on HVAC equipment.
• Troubleshoot and resolve problems.
• Respond to basic warranty calls.
• Keep managers and customers informed of progress.
