Johnson Controls is seeking an HVAC Journeyman Mechanic to join our federal team at Aberdeen Proving Grounds. You will maintain and service HVAC equipment across multiple base buildings, handling troubleshooting, repair, and preventive maintenance. Union benefits and a company vehicle are included.

Qualified candidates will have 5+ years of HVAC experience, a valid driver's license, and the ability to obtain DoD clearance. Journeyman license is required; chiller and boiler knowledge are a plus.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of commercial/industrial HVAC troubleshooting and service experience.
• Valid driver's license required.
• Ability to obtain and maintain required government clearance and badges (DoD Secret/Top-Secret preferred).
• Mechanical Journeyman License required.

Responsibilities

• Complete assigned maintenance and service duties on HVAC equipment across multiple buildings.
• Troubleshoot and resolve HVAC mechanical problems and some electrical/control issues.
• Respond to service and warranty calls.
• Inspect, diagnose, service, and repair mechanical systems with various tools/instruments.
• Perform preventative maintenance such as belt adjustments, oiling, greasing, cleaning.
• Recover, recharge refrigerant.
• Perform testing and sample collection for analysis.

Job description

We are seeking an HVAC Journeyman Mechanic to join our federal team based at the Aberdeen Proving Grounds (military experience not required). Our team here is responsible for the maintenance and service of the HVAC equipment for multiple buildings across the base.

Travel Required: None, all work is based at the Aberdeen Proving Grounds

This is a bargaining unit (union) position.

As a Journeyman Mechanic, you will:

• Complete assigned maintenance and service duties; inspecting, diagnosing, servicing, repairing, and preventive maintenance of commercial and industrial HVAC equipment.
• Troubleshoot and resolve primarily HVAC mechanical problems, as well as some electrical and control problems.
• Responds to service & warranty calls.
• Inspect, diagnose, service, and repair mechanical systems using a variety of tools and instruments.
• Perform specified preventative maintenance including belt adjustments, oiling, greasing, and cleaning of equipment.
• Recover, Reclaim, and Recharge refrigerant.
• Perform testing, collecting, and delivery of samples for analysis.

Required Qualifications:

• 5+ years of commercial and/or industrial HVAC mechanical troubleshooting and service experience.
• Valid driver's license
• Good verbal and written communication skills.
• The ability to obtain and maintain required government clearance and any other worksite-specific badges. (This will involve a background/character, work experience, education, financial/credit, and a criminal history records check). Active Department of Defense Secret or Top-Secret clearance preferred.
• Mechanical Journeyman License

Preferred Qualifications

• Chiller maintenance experience
• Welding/pipe fitting
• Knowledge of boilers - steam/hot water operational and service
• Knowledge of BAS (Metasys, Tridium).
• Current member of local union 486 or 602
