Job summary

Springfield Public Schools is seeking a Registered Youth Apprentice-HVAC in its Facilities department to support maintenance across school buildings. You will learn to inspect, repair, and install HVAC and related equipment under the supervision of experienced technicians, while keeping safety and training records up to date.

This student apprenticeship requires enrollment in a local high school, a minimum GPA, pass a background check, drug screen, and reliable transportation.

Qualifications

• Currently enrolled in a high school within The School District of Springfield R-12.
• Prior experience with tools or mechanical work is helpful but not required.
• Must pass background clearance and pre-employment physical and drug screen.

Responsibilities

• Travel with maintenance staff to assist with repairs and preventive maintenance.
• Inspect, repair, and replace parts on HVAC units, pumps, motors, and classroom equipment.
• Assist with installing new or replacement equipment under supervision.
• Learn to safely use hand tools, power tools, testing meters, and technology-based equipment.
• Maintain training logs and safety certifications during apprenticeship.
