Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in the field of study, with two years of field experience if using a bachelor’s degree.
  • Associate degree plus five years of field experience, or a Michigan license with six years of experience, or seven years with industry certification.
  • EPA 208 certification with type 1 and 2 endorsements.
  • Eligibility to work in the United States.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver instruction in HVACR courses, aligning with industry standards and curriculum.
  • Cover theory and hands‑on learning to prepare students for employment and certifications.
  • Maintain lab equipment and use vendors’ tools (e.g., Amatrol).
  • Provide timely feedback, demonstrations, and real‑world applications.
  • Ensure safe lab practices and PPE usage; submit records as required.
  • Collaborate with full‑time faculty and Dean to maintain instructional quality.

Job description

Job Overview

Responsible for delivering instruction in heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration (HVACR) courses in accordance with industry standards and Jackson College’s curriculum. This role focuses on preparing students for employment and industry certifications through hands‑on learning and theory‑based instruction. Courses may be taught on campus, at off‑site locations, or online. Adjunct faculty are expected to foster a supportive and inclusive learning environment, promote student success, and stay current with industry practices.

Essential Functions
  • Deliver engaging instruction in one or more of the following areas: refrigeration, air conditioning, heating systems, HVAC electrical systems, system diagnostics, and EPA refrigerant handling.
  • Teach course(s) as assigned and outlined in the approved course syllabus, ensuring coverage of all required competencies and learning outcomes.
  • Utilize and maintain college‑provided lab equipment and instructional tools, including those supplied by vendors such as Amatrol.
  • Support student learning through timely feedback, hands‑on demonstrations, and real‑world application of concepts.
  • Ensure safe lab practices and enforce proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and tools.
  • Submit attendance records, grades, and other required documentation in a timely manner.
  • Collaborate with full‑time faculty and the Dean to maintain instructional quality and align with program goals.
Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree or higher in the field of study and two (2) years of successful experience in the field; OR Associate degree in the field of study and five (5) years of successful experience in the field; OR State of Michigan Mechanical Contractors License and six (6) years of successful experience; OR Seven (7) years of successful experience in the field with recognized industry certification.

EPA 208 certification with type 1 and 2 endorsements.
