Job summary

Heron Power is hiring for a role to build and operate high‑voltage test infrastructure used to characterize insulation systems in medium‑voltage power electronics. You will own parts of the reliability validation loop, from test bench setup to data reporting, and contribute to data‑driven design decisions for grid‑tied hardware.

Qualifications

• Pursuing a BS or MS in Electrical Engineering, Physics, or Materials Science.
• Coursework in electromagnetics, dielectrics, or high‑voltage engineering.
• Genuine technical interest in high‑voltage physics, insulation behavior, and failure mechanisms.
• Strong debugging instincts: isolate failure modes, design targeted experiments, document root causes.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and operate medium‑voltage test benches: HV power supplies, measurement dividers, PD detection, earthing schemes, safety interlocks.
• Own bench system design: HV clearances, grounding, protection, measurement integrity, SOPs.
• Develop test fixtures for cables, busbars, insulation specimens, HV subcomponents; ensure safe operation.
• Enforce MV lab safety protocols: clearances, interlocks, lockout/tagout, safe approaches.
• Execute dielectric strength tests (AC/DC/impulse) and report results.
• Perform insulation resistance, polarization index, and dielectric loss measurements.
• Run PD measurements end to end: setup, acquisition, pattern generation, interpretation.
• Conduct accelerated aging and environmental stress campaigns on insulating materials.
• Track degradation trends: capacitance drift, tan delta, PD metrics, breakdown statistics.
• Create structured data workflows and visualizations; relate baseline, stressed, failed states.
• Produce failure mode documentation with causes, precursors, and corrective actions.
• Collaborate with design/materials engineering to translate findings into design improvements.
• Support post‑failure analysis and maintain test procedure documentation.
