HV Battery Cell Product Development Engineer

Job Description

This position involves determining battery cell capability and performance, collaborating with battery pack and vehicle teams to integrate the cell into various hybrid and electric vehicles including Mild Hybrid (mHEV), Full Hybrid (FHEV), Plug-in Hybrid (PHEV), and Battery Electric Vehicles (BEV).

Responsibilities
  1. Interface with core and unit battery pack engineering teams (thermal, mechanical, electrical)
  2. Collaborate with hybrid vehicle systems teams and energy analysis teams
  3. Resolve issues with Battery Cell Suppliers and joint venture manufacturing teams
  4. Develop quality documentation for production (DFMEA, PFMEA, Control Plans, Engineering Specifications) in partnership with suppliers
  5. Support validation activities, coordinate testing, review data, and evaluate design changes with cell suppliers
  6. Complete release of battery cell component prints in Ford Release system (WERS)
  7. Analyze vehicle and battery pack data related to cell usage, performance, and lifespan
  8. Investigate cell performance, degradation, and lifespan; coordinate with cell modeling teams
  9. Develop calibrations for battery controls; support advanced control algorithms
  10. Lead design and release activities for electrified vehicle battery cells
  11. Support next-generation battery programs with cell and pack deliverables
  12. Coordinate and conduct cell and pack characterization testing; analyze data and provide recommendations
  13. Develop test methods for cells and packs, including Key Life Tests
  14. Assist in assessing new battery cell technologies
  15. Maintain awareness of and compliance with high-voltage safety practices
Qualifications

Required:

  • B.S. in Engineering (Electrical, Chemical, Mechanical) with battery experience
  • At least 3 months of experience analyzing and evaluating designs and data

Preferred:

  • Proficiency with data analysis software (MATLAB, Excel)
  • Knowledge of powertrain and battery controls, test scripting, CAN communication
  • Familiarity with battery testing equipment (cyclers, thermal chambers, chillers)
  • Self-motivated, eager to learn, good communication skills, team-oriented
  • High Voltage Safety Training
  • MS degree is a plus
