Job summary

The University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia is seeking a ULAR Manager, Husbandry to oversee the daily operations of the animal facility from a husbandry and regulatory perspective. Qualifications

• Requires vocational or technical school training with 5–7 years of related experience.
• AALAS LATG certification or willingness to obtain within 6 months.
• Previous experience managing a laboratory animal facility and supervisory experience.
• Experience handling small animals (rodents) and possibly larger animals.
• Proficient computer skills and strong customer service.

Responsibilities

• Manage the daily operations of the animal facility from a husbandry and regulatory perspective.
• Oversee the activity of the animal care staff, including scheduling, hiring, discipline and performance evaluations.
• Interface with investigators and research staff to troubleshoot problems related to facilities, husbandry, and animal care.
• Maintain and archive records related to facility activities, census, and animal procurement using computer-based software.
• Order feed, bedding, supplies, and equipment in support of animal facility.
• Coordinate with facility maintenance, service contracts and vendors for repairs and equipment.
• Develop, revise, implement and train on SOPs; manage employee training records.
• Perform husbandry duties when short staffed.
