Kern County invites applicants for the Civil Service examination for Human Services Technician I/II in the Department of Human Services. The recruitment is continuous and may close without notice. Applicants must meet minimum qualifications and be willing to travel to designated locations.

Successful candidates will remain on the eligible list for a period of twelve-months, unless specified otherwise by the Civil Service Commission.
Initial application screening will result in a written examination. Subsequent testing dates to be posted as applicable.
Written Exam (Weight 100%): Will be conducted for the purpose of assessing the applicant's knowledge of principles of customer service and human behavior; business practices; appropriate business attire; telephone etiquette; organizational practices and procedures; basic mathematics; basic computer operations; techniques of interviewing to obtain information; basic grammar; basic public contact skills.
Applicants must attain at least a 70% score on each phase of the examination process.
Level I: High School Diploma, G.E.D. or equivalent and completion of 60 semester or 90 quarter units from an accredited college or university, or any equivalent combination of education and/or experience that provides the knowledge and abilities indicated below.
Level II: Satisfactory completion of training as a Human Services Technician I.
Both Levels: Possession of a valid Class C California driver's license is required upon appointment. Incumbents must have the ability to travel to designated locations.

Appointees are subject to fingerprinting for the purpose of a criminal records check as authorized by section 16501 of the California Welfare and Institutions code and section 11105.3 of the California Penal Code.
This examination will establish an eligible list from which immediate appointment(s) will be made. Other permanent and temporary appointments will be made as needed. Successful candidates will remain on the eligible list for a period of twelve-months, unless specified otherwise by the Civil Service Commission.
