Job Duties

• This is a restricted position, which is solely funded by the CDC- Pregnant People Infant Link Longitudinal Surveillance. The availability of funding is scheduled for review annually and periodically thereafter. Continued employment is contingent on the continued availability of funds.
• The Clinical Consultant Specialist will provide expert guidance, support, and educational resources to families of children diagnosed with congenital cytomegalovirus (cCMV). This role is central to the PPILLS grant’s objectives of improving family-centered care, conducting targeted surveys, and collecting data to inform programmatic strategies.
• Assists families in navigating medical, developmental, and social service systems.
• Monitors and follows up on children’s care plans, referrals, and interventions.
• Designs, administers, and manages surveys for families to capture experiences, outcomes, and service utilization.
• Ensures surveys are conducted ethically, confidentially, and according to research protocols.
• Tracks survey completion and follows up with families as needed.
• Partnerships with physicians, audiologists, social workers, and other providers supporting cCMV-affected families.
• Coordinates care and shares information to ensure continuity and quality of services.
• Builds and maintains relationships with community organizations and early intervention programs.
• Accesses, reviews, and extracts relevant clinical data from medical records to support follow-up and program reporting.
• Maintains accurate documentation of interventions, referrals, and family contacts.
• Tracks each child’s ongoing care and follows up on missed appointments, developmental screenings, and therapy referrals.
• Identifies barriers to care and develops strategies to overcome them.
• Provides families with educational materials and resources regarding cCMV, treatment options, and early intervention strategies.
• Trains and consults with clinical staff and stakeholders on best practices for family-centered cCMV care.
• Assists in collecting, organizing, and analyzing program data to meet grant reporting requirements.
• Participates in team meetings to discuss outcomes, share insights, and improve program processes.
• Stays current on cCMV research, early intervention strategies, and best practices in family-centered care.
• Recommends and implements quality improvement initiatives based on family feedback and program data.

Minimum Qualifications

• Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive patient information in accordance with legal and ethical standards.
• Ability to apply pediatric clinical knowledge to evaluate and interpret medical records for completeness and accuracy.
• Excellent organization & presentation skills; strong networking abilities & communication skills.
• Knowledge of medical terminology, diagnostic procedures, treatment protocols, and clinical documentation standards relevant to pediatric populations.
• Familiarity with electronic health records (EHR) systems, medical record abstraction processes, and healthcare data collection guidelines.
• Comprehensive knowledge of pediatric nursing principles, including growth and development, common pediatric conditions such as cCMV and hearing loss.
• Skilled in accurately reviewing, interpreting, and abstracting clinical data from medical records with strong attention to detail.
• Licensed Registered Nurse with clinical experience in pediatric nursing (e.g., hospital, clinic, or public health setting).

Additional Considerations

• Understanding of regulatory and compliance requirements, including HIPAA and quality assurance standards for medical data handling.
• Travel may be required.
• Time management and organizational skills to handle multiple case follow-ups and meet deadlines.
