Position Summary

The Department of Human Services and Counseling invites applications for part‑time affiliate faculty teaching positions. Affiliate faculty will teach courses in the Human Services major and related concentrations such as Addiction Studies and Trauma/High‑Risk Youth.

Responsibilities

• Teach assigned classes in person or online, delivering course content to students.
• Prepare course materials and lesson plans, grade student work, and provide timely, robust feedback.
• Answer student questions consistently with university, college, and departmental policies.
• Provide online or in‑person academic support as needed and appropriate for the assignment.
• Deliver instruction consistent with the content and learning objectives of the regular course syllabus and, if required, with department course coordination policies.
• Comply with university‑wide student evaluation of instruction policies and peer observation procedures.
• Adapt to and learn new modes of instruction; demonstrate sensitivity to the educational needs of a diverse student population.

Required Qualifications

• Master’s degree in Human Services, Counseling, Social Work, Sociology, Psychology, Education, Gerontology, Rehabilitation, Women’s Studies, Communication, Nonprofit Studies, Behavior Science, or a related field; or tested experience (FERA).
• LAC and State approval required for teaching certain Addiction Studies classes.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in the field of Human Services or related disciplines.
• Teaching experience or experience presenting or facilitating educational activities.
• Experience working with diverse populations.

Terms of Employment

Affiliate faculty are part‑time, at‑will employees hired on a per‑credit‑hour basis for specific classes, usually on a semester‑by‑semester basis. Affiliate faculty are not eligible for benefit coverage under the University’s benefit program and assignments are dependent on budget and enrollment.

Salary

Pay is based on the number of credit hours assigned at a rate determined by university policy. The rate of pay per credit hour assignment ranges from $1,264 to $1,482.
