Job summary

Health & Human Services Commission (HHSC) seeks a Human Rights Officer I for Mexia State Supported Living Center. The role promotes residents’ legal and basic rights, chairs the Human Rights Committee, and coordinates the Self-Advocacy program.

Responsibilities include investigations of rights-related issues, policy development, staff training, and data review on rights restrictions. This full-time, on-site position is day-shift with possible overtime and up to 5% travel.

Qualifications

  • Knowledge of local, state, and federal laws and regulations relevant to rights and due process.
  • Ability to develop and evaluate administrative policies and procedures.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to train staff, volunteers and residents.
  • Experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities.

Responsibilities

  • Chair the Human Rights Committee meetings to ensure due process for rights restrictions.
  • Coordinate the Self-Advocacy program and ensure it remains effective.
  • Investigate and resolve rights-related complaints and incidents.
  • Review data on resident protections and rights restrictions with follow-up actions.
