Basic Function Of Position
This position performs working-level clerical and routine technical duties as needed to expedite the processing and maintenance of human resources information and records. Assists with the day-to-day tasks of the human resources division and supports a wide range of HR activities, including general administrative duties, recruitment, and employee database management. This position will collect, extract, and input employee benefits and workers' compensation data. Provides the necessary support to ensure the division's needs are adequately met.

The Human Resources Technicians work under the supervision and direction of the Human Resources Deputy Directors.

Principal Responsibilities
The following list describes several of the essential functions of this position. This list may be supplemented as necessary:
- Promotes and supports the mission and values of the UFA
- Provides administrative support for the Human Resources Division
- Prepares purchasing (P-Card) and tracks and prepares Material Request (MR) forms for purchasing with supporting documents for Human Resources
- Performs computer work related to word processing, spreadsheets, databases, and other computer programs
- Provides administrative support for the Policy Advisory Committee, coordinates meeting times and facilities, prepares agendas and supporting documents, prepares and distributes minutes, and maintains applicable records
- Provides administrative support for the VEBA Committee coordinates meeting times and facilities, prepares agendas and supporting documents, prepares and distributes minutes, and maintains applicable records
- Processes newly hired employees' information through E-Verify and the Department of Workforce Services
- Assists divisions in scheduling applicants for interviews and coordinates information in applicant the applicant tracking software
- Prepares documents and materials for new hires and promotional testing processes
- Submits Worker's Compensation claims and assists in tracking injury and accident statistics
- Composes and proofreads materials to ensure proper layout, grammatical composition, punctuation, and inclusion of all pertinent information
- Administers the annual and probationary Employee Performances and Development process, including tracking completion
- Prepares Personnel Action Forms for distribution
- Tracks and Coordinates new hire background psychological testing, including proctoring specific evaluations
- Maintains the office supply inventory system for administration. Ensures the stockroom is stocked, organized, and neat, with appropriate labels on cabinets.
- Schedules employee's annual physicals and tracks and records all information provided by the healthcare clinics
- Coordinates the UFA's Service Awards program
- Assists with maintaining and updating benefit and payroll records into UFA's systems (UKG, Employee Navigator)
- Files, scans, and maintains accurate and up-to-date human resources files, records, and documentation. Oversees personnel files for all UFA employees
- Performs periodic audits of human resources files and records to ensure that all required documents are collected and filed appropriately
- Calculates operational backfill costs for reimbursement from applicable programs
- May process confidential information legal documents and exercise discretion in protecting and releasing confidential information
- Performs other duties of a similar nature or level

Knowledge Of
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- General principles and practices of public Human Resources administration; applicable state and federal employment laws and regulations; principles and techniques of recruitment and selection in the public sector. Business English grammar and language rules, proper spelling, basic math skills, and knowledge of office record-keeping, report preparation, and office organization.
Skills (or Skill In)
- The use of computers and basic business software programs include Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher, Internet Explorer, and Adobe Acrobat.
- Creating word-processing documents, spreadsheets, and PowerPoint presentations
- The use of general office equipment, including copiers, printers, fax machines, and scanners

- Maintain confidentiality and the application of good judgment when dealing with critical and sensitive issues or assignments
- Effectively handle multiple assignments, special projects, and other duties as assigned

Minimum Experience And Qualifications
- Valid Driver's License
- Two years of experience or an equivalent combination of related education and experience
Desirable Qualifications
- Associate or Bachelor's Degree in Human Resources or a closely related field.
Working Environment
This position is part-time and paid on an hourly basis. It is not considered a merit position, and the employee will not be entitled to general Unified Fire Authority employment benefits (insurance, retirement contribution, tuition assistance or paid leave). However, part-time employees without benefits are eligible for a few specific benefits, including workers' compensation coverage and training opportunities. Work hours are generally between twenty and twenty-eight hours per week.
Work is performed in a general office environment during routine office hours, Monday through Friday; however, after-hours and weekend work is possible. Work activities vary widely, including meeting attendance, field and classroom training, and driving. Work may include infrequent response to emergencies to assist with logistical and/or administrative duties.
Physical And Mental Job Requirements
To perform the job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each of the essential job functions satisfactorily. This position involves periods of prolonged sitting and use of computer equipment. This position requires the physical and mental capabilities to read information printed on paper and displayed on computer monitors; hear, speak, and communicate verbally using English; cognitive thinking and mathematical calculation capabilities; and manual dexterity to manipulate standard office equipment, papers, files, and records. This position requires occasional driving and the ability to lift to ten (10) pounds. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
Classified as FLSA Non-exempt and eligible for overtime.
