About the Role:

The City of Greensboro is seeking a dedicated and knowledgeable Human Resources Representative to serve as the primary HR liaison for the Transportation Department. This is your opportunity to make a meaningful impact by supporting a department that keeps our city moving. As the HR Subject Matter Expert (SME) for the department, you’ll play a key role in supporting employees and leadership across a wide range of HR functions—ensuring compliance, promoting engagement, and helping the team thrive.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Serve as the HR Subject Matter Expert (SME) and primary liaison for the Transportation Department
  • Oversee the full lifecycle of hiring and onboarding processes
  • Advise employees and managers on HR policies, procedures, and regulatory compliance
  • Maintain and manage data in multiple HR Information Systems
  • Assist employees with understanding and accessing their benefits
  • Provide support and guidance in areas such as:
    • Recruitment and selection
    • Training and development
    • Compensation and benefits
    • Labor relations and timekeeping

Required Knowledge and Skills:

  • Thorough knowledge of federal, state, and organizational HR regulations, including:
    • FLSA (Fair Labor Standards Act)
    • EEOC (Equal Employment Opportunity Commission)
    • ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act)
    • FMLA (Family and Medical Leave Act)
    • HIPAA (Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act)
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills to effectively engage with a diverse workforce
  • Ability to interpret and apply City personnel policies and procedures
  • High level of professionalism, discretion, and commitment to confidentiality
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, PowerPoint, and Word

What You Bring:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree with 1-3 years of related experience in Human Resources, Benefits Administration, or a closely related field
  • “OR” an Associate’s Degree with 5-7 years of related experience in Human Resources, Benefits Administration, or a closely related field
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc.)

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Human Resources, Business Management, or a closely related field
  • Professional certifications such as SPHR, PHR, SHRM-SCP, SHRM-CP, PSHRA, or other Human Resources certifications
