We're looking for someone who wants to run HR, not simply administer it. This is a hands-on role for someone who likes being involved in the business. You'll recruit and onboard employees, manage benefits and claims, coach supervisors, coordinate training, oversee compliance, and help us get better at attracting, developing and keeping good people.
- Pay: $90,000–$105,000/year, based on experience
- Type: Full-time, salaried (exempt)
- Schedule: Mon–Fri, generally 8 AM–5 PM
- Location: Greater Cincinnati, OH (on-site)
- Travel: Monthly, to Dayton, Cleveland and Eastern Kentucky branches
About A&A Safety
A&A Safety is a family-owned specialty highway subcontractor, founded in 1982. We do pavement marking, traffic control, marking removal, grooving and barrier wall work across Ohio, Kentucky and Indiana. We also run a sign and graphics shop and a sales team. Our workforce is mostly field and shop employees, many of them union members, supported by office, estimating, sales, safety and project management staff.
About This Role
Our work is seasonal. Hiring ramps up each spring, peaks May through September, and winds down with layoffs in late fall. That cycle drives much of the recruiting, unemployment and benefit-eligibility work in this job.
The role is based in Greater Cincinnati and is on-site. You'll travel to our branches in Dayton and Cleveland, Ohio, and Eastern Kentucky at least once a month. Normal hours are 8 AM to 5 PM, but because we support a field workforce, you'll sometimes need to be available earlier or later for employee schedules, meetings, training or investigations.
What You'll Do
You'll have hands-on responsibility for the major HR functions supporting our employees, supervisors and management team.
Benefits Administration
You'll run our benefits programs, from enrollment and claims to renewals and plan costs.

- Administer the Health Savings Account (HSA) program, including employer contributions
- Review insurance carrier invoices and payments
- Monitor benefit plan funding, employer contributions, deductions and reconciliations
- Maintain required benefit documents, notices and records, and help with plan compliance
Workers' Compensation and Safety
You'll manage injury claims start to finish and run our drug and alcohol testing programs with the Safety Department.
- Manage workers' comp claims from first injury report through resolution
- Coordinate between injured employees, supervisors, medical providers and claims administrators
- Track open claims, medical treatment, work restrictions and claim status
- Coordinate return-to-work, transitional-duty and light-duty programs
- Review injuries and claims to spot trends and cut injuries and costs
- Maintain workers' comp and workplace injury records
- Help with OSHA recordkeeping and reporting
- Work with management and the Safety Department on accident investigations and injury prevention
- Administer the Drug-Free Workplace Program, including pre-employment, random, post-accident and reasonable-suspicion testing

- Coordinate required compliance training, including harassment prevention, EEO and Drug-Free Workplace
- Help supervisors with coaching, performance improvement and development

Legal Compliance and Documentation
You'll keep us compliant with employment law and make sure policies are applied fairly and consistently.

- Manage recruiting for field, administrative, professional and management positions
- Work with managers to identify current and upcoming staffing needs
- Write job descriptions and job postings
- Manage job boards, employee referrals and other recruiting channels
- Review applications and identify qualified candidates
- Screen candidates and coordinate interviews with hiring managers

- Track the cost and results of each recruiting source
- Track recruiting metrics, including applicant volume, source effectiveness, time-to-fill, hiring results and retention

You'll take new hires from offer to a smooth first few weeks on the job.
- Run the hiring process from candidate selection through the new employee's first weeks

This is a hands-on job. You'll be expected to be accessible to employees and supervisors, follow issues through to resolution, and balance employee needs with the company's operational and compliance needs.
