Job description

Southern Arizona Legal Aid serves 9 counties in Arizona and 11 Native American Tribal communities.
The Human Resources Manager oversees a workforce of 70 employees, and works with the
management team to ensure that quality staff are hired, onboarded and supported while.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  1. 1. Employee Recruitment: Oversees all employment related inquiries for hiring new employees and former employees. Posting all Job Announcements, collection of candidate job applications, resumes, cover-letters, references, and writing samples. Oversee new employee wage scale placement, I-9 verification, fingerprinting, and background checks. Maintains employee Personnel, including HIPPA compliant files. Participate in hiring committees as needed.
  2. 2. Orientation and Training: Oversee the onboarding and orientation of new employees and board members. Ensure that all required onboard documents are signed by new employees. With the assistance of the Executive Assistant, update and maintain SALA’s Personnel Manual. Participate in the implementation of organization-wide training. Identify employment law training for managers and staff.
  3. 4. Labor Relations: Receives employee complaints and conducts disciplinary investigations consistent with SALA’s policies. Ensure adherence to the grievance process as set out in SALA”s Personnel Policy and Collective Bargaining Agreement. Participate in management‑union negotiations as needed.
  4. 5. Employee HIPPA Files/Medical Reimbursement: Manage and maintain HIPPA files and approve all medical reimbursement requests under SALA’s Spending Account Plan (Cafeteria Plan).
  5. 6. Human Resources: Direct or assist in the overall planning and administration of SALA’s Human Resources Department to ensure compliance with all laws, regulations, policies, and procedures applicable to SALA. Conducts disciplinary investigations consistent with SALA’s policies. Other duties as delegated by the Executive Director when needed.
  6. 7. Purchasing: Assess, select, recommend and/or purchase office equipment and supplies program wide. Find suppliers, evaluate suppliers (price, quality, service support, reliability, selection, etc.) Study catalogs, company publications, directories, often on the Internet; and the reputation of the company. Solicit bids when necessary.
  7. 8. Any other duties assigned by the Executive Director or his/her designee.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
  • Bachelor’s degree in human resources, Business Administration, or related field preferred.
  • A minimum of three years of human resource management experience preferred.
  • SHRM-CP or SHRM-SCP highly desired.

COMPENSATION
Salary range: $50,154 – $68,847; up to five percent additional compensation to
individuals fluent in Spanish. Excellent benefits package including health insurance, disability
insurance, and pension plan. Excellent work/life balance with 35-hour workweeks and generous leave
provisions.
