Express Employment Professionals is partnering with an established nonprofit organization in Olympia, WA, to find an experienced Human Resources Manager.
This is a hands-on HR role responsible for supporting employees and leadership across payroll, benefits, recruiting, onboarding, compliance, employee relations, training, and performance management. A major component of this position is processing semi-monthly payroll and maintaining accurate employee information within the HRIS system.
We are especially interested in candidates with hands-on payroll experience and experience using Paylocity who are comfortable managing the details of payroll and HR administration while also serving as a trusted resource for employees and managers.
Key Responsibilities
- Process semi-monthly payroll accurately and on time
- Create payroll reports and staff budget reports
- Maintain accurate employee, payroll, and HR information within the HRIS system
- Serve as a primary resource for employees and managers regarding payroll, timekeeping, benefits, HR policies, and procedures
- Coordinate recruiting, interviewing, reference checks, hiring, onboarding, orientation, and offboarding
- Maintain personnel files and ensure employee documentation remains accurate, complete, and compliant
- Assist with benefits administration, including employee eligibility, enrollment, disenrollment, and reconciliation with benefit providers
- Lead annual benefits open enrollment and coordinate with benefits and COBRA administrators
- Administer employee leave programs, including FMLA and Washington Paid Family & Medical Leave
- Manage workers' compensation and unemployment claims
- Maintain HR policies, procedures, forms, and required documentation
- Manage the employee performance evaluation process and help ensure job descriptions remain current
- Coordinate required employee training and professional development
- Support managers with employee relations, disciplinary processes, and conflict resolution
- Help ensure compliance with applicable employment and payroll laws
- Prepare HR reports and documentation as requested
- Support employee engagement initiatives, meetings, special projects, and organizational events
What You Bring
- 4+ years of HR, payroll, and benefits experience
- Hands-on payroll processing experience required
- Paylocity experience strongly preferred
- Strong understanding of payroll laws, employment laws, HR policies, procedures, and best practices
- Experience maintaining accurate employee information within an HRIS system
- Experience with benefits administration, employee leave, and payroll/timekeeping questions
- Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business, or a related field, or SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP, PHR, or SPHR certification
- Nonprofit HR experience is a plus
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office
- Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain accurate, audit-ready documentation
- Excellent organization, planning, communication, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work effectively with employees and managers at all levels
- High level of professionalism and discretion when handling confidential employee information
- Must be able to pass a criminal history background check
