Permanent Placements is seeking a Human Resources Manager for our client based in downtown Chicago. This role will serve in a firm-wide capacity providing day-to-day HR guidance and support to managers and administrative staff. The position focuses on the people side of HR, including employee relations, performance management, and recruiting, and works closely with a peer HR leader who manages operational and process-driven HR functions. This is a management role with three direct reports and regular interaction with firm leadership, attorneys, and administrative staff.
Position Overview
The HR Manager ensures HR initiatives align with the firm’s business strategy, culture, and values. The role supports employee engagement and oversees HR processes including recruiting, performance management, compensation, and employee relations while serving as a partner to leadership and staff.
Core Responsibilities
- Counsel leadership on recruiting, employee relations, labor and employment compliance, performance management, retention, and compensation
- Administer HR programs and procedures supporting employee engagement
- Coach and mentor HR team members and recruiting staff
- Lead recruitment for executive-level positions and oversee staff recruitment
- Support compensation reviews, salary surveys, and benchmarking efforts
- Provide coaching and guidance in performance management and conflict resolution
- Partner on employee relations matters and support policy application and documentation
- Lead internal investigations in partnership with senior HR leadership
- Use insights from reviews and exit interviews to identify trends and recommend action
- Provide timely support to attorneys and employees on general HR matters
- Contribute to HR initiatives, processes, and best practices
Qualifications
- 8+ years of human resources experience
- Prior HR management experience with direct people leadership
- Strong employee relations experience
- Current HR leadership experience within a Law Firm or Big Four organization
Preferred
- HR certification
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Industrial Relations, Organizational Psychology, or equivalent experience
Technical
- Intermediate proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite
